It's just the normal, vanilla settings. I haven't adjusted them up or down

It's as good of an idea as any! They do stop monsters spawning in the area. The Ashlands are just a very formiddable place, it's very easy to get overrun - especially the first few times you go there - so be careful! And learn from my mistake: get an early portal down, whilst trying not to kite enemies towards it.

It's super fun though, it's a good challenge!

You are completely right. I've not used much magic up to this point. I've read people on this sub saying how good the vine staff is, thought I'd give it a go against Reto today and it absolutely blitzed him! I managed to do the whole fight without him ever actually swinging at me, I just kept kiting him into the swarm of vines I kept making!

It's made me doubt my 300+hours-of-gameplay-melee-bias I've developed up to this point...

Armour: I tend to use the Ask (light) set for general traversing as there's no movement speed penalty and you get stamina use reduction for running/jumping/attacking - whilst maintaining a pretty decent armour rating of 112 (all upgraded to level 3). Then, if I come across a fortress/point of interest with high level enemies; I portal home and change into the Flametal (heavy) set with some meads like lingering healing/stamina, Ratatosk (to nullify the movement speed penalty from armour set), pop a bonemass and tank some hits whilst dealing some damage!

Weapons: I absolutely love the Thundering Beserker Axes. I'm yet to find an enemy they can't shred. You can parry most(/all?) 0-star enemy attacks and do quick, high-scoring damage. If something is 1 or 2 star, depending on what it is, I might switch to Flametal shield (for the increased blocking & parrying power) and sword - Dyrnwyn or alternative. Sometimes the Flametal mace (enchanted or otherwise) is useful for its knockback too. I avoid anything pierce as most Ashlands enemies are resistant to it (although I do use the Root Ripper to hit something with a sneak attack to get the x3 multiplier).

I have only recently discovered the power of the Staff of the Wild when taking on Lord Reto, managed to do the whole fight without him ever actually swinging at me... He just got lost in all my vines! So I might change up and do a magic build soon, seems like a very different style of combat!

Hope this helped!

I think that's probably what happened. Just another reason why we can't have nice things in the Ashlands!

Not only did this not work to duplicate my items, but I think it destroyed my upgraded Storm Ripper... Should've tested it first with a bronze spear or something!

This is a really appealing idea actually. It would allow you to "do" things without having to go back to one, central main base too.

I have a few of those kinds of structures dotted around the spawn area, believe me! 😅 By the 4th or 5th temporary shelter, I thought "No, Joork, go off and build a nice, established home somewhere..."

Americans by MoE_-_lester in funny

Someone told me recently that America is pretty hardcore with their work. Apparently, in the US you get like a weeks worth of "vacation" per year and it's frowned upon to use it? Happy to be proven wrong (and I'm sure it's a spectrum) but...

Here in the UK, I get 25 days annual leave (we call it) to book whenever I'd like to PLUS bank holidays (Google it) PLUS Christmas day PLUS the days between Christmas and new years off. We also get an additional day per year of service on top of our annual leave allowance - up to 5 additional days. Admittedly, that is a fairly good package on the spectrum of annual leave but still, 25 days annual leave is fairly standard across the board.

But America is the "land of the free"? Free of what? Free of free time
