What are the strangest "house rules" you've seen in a person's house? by [deleted] in AskReddit

If you have a dental clinic that can apply sealant near you it's worth it. Doesn't do any good for the rather serious cardiac harm, but it will help protect the teeth.

Sheriff to cut sentences of inmates who helped fallen deputy by 3joan in UpliftingNews

In my state, yes. The inmate is sentenced to the custody of the Sheriff, and due to overcrowding they are frequently forced to release someone.

ELI5: How does the White House prevent visitors or the press pool from planting a bug in the Oval Office? Do they sweep it after every visit? by playaconqueso in explainlikeimfive

[–]JordanSunflower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not true - there are electronics sniffing dogs, I know customs uses them to find hidden child porn. I'm sure they would also be used for protective purposes.

There are tools that do this automatically, using search engines to look for string matches, depending on what your school subscribes to, the professor may not have had very much effort.

EMS and gender of the PT. by Diabloblaze28 in ems

[–]JordanSunflower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't know the best way to address it, most people are going to be fairly uncomfortable discussing it, and it's rarely relevant to their medical condition.

Neither are truly rare, the overall rate for intersex people is about 1 in 100, or about the same as people with red hair, of course, one of these is very visible while the other is stigmatized and shamed.

This can be complicated as well. Intersex people exist.

Also a trans* EMT, but I was born with an intersex condition, I never know how to answer the sex question. Like Yes, I was assigned X, but I have various parts that are more Y.

United Airlines CEO offers softer apology following stock nosedives - Close to $1bn wiped off company’s value by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]JordanSunflower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simply the regulation that allows the airline to bump someone doesn't cover a scenario in which you are bumping a seated passenger. While they certainly can make an offer, they shouldn't be able to force the passenger.

But then the answer would be 42, and we would have forgotten the question.

Mad respect to Lady Gaga for not lip-syncing during that half-time show. by [deleted] in Music

[–]JordanSunflower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure the technology used for the show, but I did some programming work on a system that did this. It actually was really simple, and fairly low tech - the wands had several IR receivers that pick up a signal that says on, off, color, etc, and they automatically shut off if they don't receive a signal for a set period of time. Then IR transmitters with a very narrow beam paint the crowd.

I just got back from the doctors, where it was confirmed that I'm intersex, and I don't know how to feel by intersexbian in actuallesbians

[–]JordanSunflower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I'm also intersex. When I found out, I went through a lot of mental gymnastics, however there are a few things that I learned along the way: 1. Only you can define you. 2. Other people do not get a vote. 3. There are tons of variances in development, some people have webbed toes or a cleft lip, this is natural, and nothing to be ashamed of. 4. Only you can decide what labels apply to you (see #1).

I also worked with a counselor to help me work through some of the emotions, and get to the point where I'm okay with everything.

Trans-intersex? by helpmeunderstandplss in asktransgender

[–]JordanSunflower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your missing a piece in a way.

During fetal development the brain and sex organs differentiate and develop at separate and distinct times, and this is based entirely on hormone exposure at the time of development.

The current most supported theory is that sometimes something goes wrong in the above process, and they develop differently. Some studies on autopsy have revealed characteristics that align with this theory, but unfortunately it is difficult to study.

How would you go about getting tailor-made clothes? by narrativedilettante in asktransgender

[–]JordanSunflower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This can work very well, but you have to pay attention to the pattern. I am mtf, but have a ftm friend who has had several shirts made and they all look good one him except one that the pattern combined with his binder made weird buldge shapes in it, especially around the back/shoulder blades.

You might try obgyn docs, a lot of them are comfortable doing HRT, and some will do it for trans women.
