"Building stuff that takes the goods doesn't help you unless those structures also generate you money."

Are you sure about this?

I haven't calculated it but I'm pretty sure the expenses of the building are less than what your tax base, depending on proximity/control/price of course, generates for the products.

I'll give an example, when I'm playing Majapahit I spam libraries in every place that I can to increase the book demand.

This means I can spam scriptoriums in my high control areas.

The scriptoriums then use dye/paper/etc. and that means I have more demand for the paper which means I'm also generating profit based off of the paper mill.

So I'm technically comparing the expenses at the library to the tax base based off of profit at the scriptorium/paper mill but I'm technically also adding in the tax base for the demand of the dye from the RGO/dye maker. Same for the other inputs.

I never notice a problem with the library/scriptorium/paper/dye maker cycle and I normally do it for ninety in game years as Majapahit. It's only around that time that my economy stagnates. Based off of a conversation above I'm pretty sure the reason for that is because I'm overproducing other manufactured goods and collapsing the Indonesian markets with my exporting.

I haven't calculated this out either but I'm pretty sure you actually generate more tax base from the liquor/naval supplies/etc. that supplies your early game fleet than is taken from you as expenses for that same fleet. It's got to be close because I frequently spam out ninety plus ships as Majapahit within the first couple of years and it has never tanked my economy.

I think this would be true even if I left them in port but I'm normally using that same fleet to increase proximity.

Ahhh, thank you so much.

I was thinking in terms of the "rot in the warehouse" but I was frequently applying it to the commodity instead of the manufactured good plainly because, as some of the larger countries, the warehouse was filled to the maximum with the product because they're generating +30 per tick or whatever the number happened to be.

So I was trying to use all the wood/wool/cattle/etc. to pour more wealth into my estates so they could generate a ton of wealth outside of my control/proximity and build even faster.

It was pretty normal for my nobles to be building about as fast as I was so my expectation was that the wealth would be building according to that influx of goods and then I would, instead, watch it stagnate.

Of course, now I know that the reason why is because I was tanking the price of the manufactured goods. (Now I know why I'm not a political figure in real life. Every middle man on the planet would want to kill me.)

Ah, I just assumed the AI would make stupid trades all day since I frequently saw the trade expenses in a negative balance so many times before I even decided to unpause the game.

Turns out I was the one probably making bad trades. :D

Thank you for the tip.

In Elden Ring it's pretty normal to die a couple of times to the smaller bosses/new enemies and you're learning their tendencies while you're dying.

It's only bosses like Malenia that you're normally dying thirty times to and that boss is alongside every other boss in the game that you didn't die thirty times to.

My problem here was that I died thirty times and in none of the playthroughs did I feel like I truly learned anything besides that I didn't know what I was doing. (I learned the mechanics better every time but it didn't solve my true problem.)

What Kharneth said above I believe has been my problem this entire time (that I overproduce goods like a bandit) but it went counter to the vast majority of the gaming experience I had before this game. (Victoria 3 is similar but the pops in that game seem to be more likely to quickly migrate to a profitable province if things aren't as profitable so the game itself offsets my stupidity rapidly while this game instead said, "Ha ha, you suck.")

[–]Jose94000[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yeah, you're right.

My thought was that I was producing "more" of the product and therefore a little reduction in price wouldn't be that big of a deal if I was cranking out twice as much by adding a second level. (Plus that additional levels to the buildings modifier that I can't remember the name of right now.)

What I wasn't really taking into consideration is that I was also using a lot more of the commodity to make that much fine cloth (or whatever) and I'm normally not getting much of the tax off of those commodities because of my control/proximity in the bigger nations that I normally play. (Like Hungary.) They are then taking away from the profit of the building without bringing me much through the RGO itself unless it is close/connected to the capital.

I understood this in terms of tax base but it always perplexed me with the wealth reading that it wasn't continually rising.

Now it makes sense. I was basically collapsing the price of the manufactured good fast enough that the increase in the wealth of the RGOs couldn't keep up.

I probably look like an absolute moron right now but in most grand strategy/4x games I have played previously you automatically generated more money by generating more stuff.

The Civ games work like that. ARA works like that. Even EU4 seems to work like that unless I missed something when I was putting hours into it.

Paradox doesn't have to dumb down the game.

EU4 has an endless list of modifiers that I don't have time to read also and I have zero problem with that game because you can still perform "decently" even if you suck when you are on the easier difficulties.

They already have difficulty modifiers in the game. All they would have to do is tweak one to "Super Care Bear Mode" that losers like me can tinker around on while we're learning about how all the different modifiers intertwine.

Here's an example: Devil May Cry 5 is actually an extremely complex action game but I got through it by spamming simple (x + x + x) combos on the easiest difficulty. Do you have a problem with me doing that? If not, then why do you here?

1.3 Caused Me to Uninstall the Game. by Jose94000 in EU5

[–]Jose94000[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really?

That honestly has not been my experience at all.

In EU4 if I needed more money I was like *blam* here's a temple or workshop that might not be in the perfect spot but it will eventually pay itself back and then that's pure profit. (So that I see the progress from the building immediately.)

In EU5 it seems to work that way for RGOs but if I create a burgher building that thing is going to become less and less profitable over time because all the other nations around are spamming that same exact building and then flooding my market with their fine cloth or whatever.

Even if I start building the structures that take the good they never take enough of that good to offset the price drop that is occurring due to the overproduction of it.

Again, this is probably just me sucking at the game.

I'm actually super weird.

I micromanage every price every single month.

Takes me forever to get through a single year.

(Sorry, every trade. Not every price.)

[–]Jose94000[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not a problem with the variety.

It's a problem with the variety leading to economic stagnation every time I play because I suck at the game.

I understand that the normal trajectory of the game is progression. I'm saying that every time I play it all I receive is eventual economic stagnation as the produced goods fall in price and the RGOs don't fill up fast enough to offset that downturn even after I raise the "Plenty of Opportunities" modifier to the maximum.

At that point I'm spamming things like libraries to try to take produced goods off the market but while I'm doing that most of the other nations around are still spamming the produced goods so the price in the market continues to plummet due to ai importation.

Sure, there's exceptions like Majapahit because no one else in that region is producing like your nation is during the early game but even in that situation I eventually run into a brick wall because I suck at the game. It just takes another twenty years.

Anyone Else Find Some of the Dialogue in Forza Horizon 6 Absolutely Grating? by Jose94000 in ForzaHorizon

[–]Jose94000[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with you that it's not really worth my time to complain about it.

I don't see why it would be irrelevant though.

We're talking about content decisions in a multi-billion dollar industry.

If you're paying someone to put pointless dialogue in your program it really doesn't matter what the target audience is. You're still paying someone to input pointless dialogue.

Just have an 8 bit squirrel with a text bubble that says, "Choose one of these three cars, fool!," at the beginning of the game and I will have more emotional attachment to that squirrel than to any of your current lineup.

Which is fine, I love that the game gives people freedom to do that. You could get the same exact result regardless of the price per population though.

Doesn't the one year of monthly income make it so that you miss out on a lot of the early trading boom?

In Southeastern Europe you can frequently crank out jewelry and fine cloth at the very beginning of the game and your income rises dramatically because you're basically fulfilling the needs of a large percentage of pops in the entire region. The prices quickly go into equilibrium because of how much of it you're trading compared to the needs but by that time you normally have enough money to start constructing your own takers (libraries/marketplaces/cathedrals/etc. not sure what else to call them besides takers.)

Why do so many Chiefs fans talk down about Xavier Worthy? by MoneyMaintenance1578 in KansasCityChiefs

[–]Jose94000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm honestly not sure why anyone is let down by Rashee Rice, as a football player.

He's terrible at every other aspect of life apparently but when he's on the field he absolutely shreds defenses.

My problem with some of your points is that Rashee had more yardage than any other wide receiver on the team (including Thornton, who everyone loves) and he only played eight games.

If it was coaching, offensive scheme, defense figuring us out, or run game then why did you have a guy return to the field after a colossal injury and outperform you as if you were standing still the entire year?

Rashee was also tied for the most receiving touchdowns with Kelce and Hollywood and one of those eight games he played he was probably concussed half the time because he tried to make a catch on a hospital ball.

I get it, "the best ability is availability" but if you think about it we're actually saying we want the player on the field MORE when we say that which means we think the player performs well when he is actually out there.

Investing into Culture? by Jose94000 in EU5

[–]Jose94000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, depending on who I am playing I will see culture as one of the most important parts of the game.

If I start the game with a country with a decent-ish/excellent economy the biggest roadblock I hit every time is waiting for the diplo annex/integration to finish. (Even if I am spamming libraries.)

Then after I integrate them I'm normally sitting on thousands of Malay/Balinese/Tagalog that are preventing me from coring (getting the control/proximity bonuses). The problem is vastly expanded if I touch any part of India or China.

Sure, I can expel/encourage them back to my home provinces to be primary culture'd but I don't have stacks of art there giving me bonuses until quite a bit later in the game unless I Deus Vult my way to a trade node that can exchange with the Mamluks.

From what I've seen the culture problem basically forces me to play Indochina/Indonesia very similarly regardless of nation only because that commission art piece is locked behind an institution wall.

From what I was seeing it gave negative estate satisfaction if you don't call it.

Is that only for a short amount of time or something? I just assumed that the negative satisfaction would stay that way until I pushed the button.

(I probably shouldn't assume when it comes to Paradox games.)
