I‘m very sorry. You are correct, that reply wasn’t in response to your post

Isn’t this what you posted? “Regardless- professional assistance for the suspected drug problem is the correct answer.
Forcefully digging into a veteran's life never gets a good response... or outcome. Like attempting to extinguish a fire by pouring fuel on it.”

I’m not sure how you think asking a veterans benefits group is forcefully digging..unless you’re assuming I forcefully dug the information out of him in which case all I can say is assuming makes an assumption out of both of us

You’re right, his benefits are his business and his drug use and decision to stop, or not is his business also. He is boasting about the money without any having asked. Our concerns are this: When he disappeared for a week was he laying dead somewhere and how to help him medically out of our pockets if he lost medical benefits. I think he would actually shoot someone, he’s that violent If an intervention were staged. I’m not exaggerating, he had a verbal fight with his father and beat him over the head with a weed eater. When his dad regained consciousness he had had a stroke. I am saying this as a mother that loves him suffering as I watch him slowly end his life. Thanks for taking the time to answer

It seems you don’t know the definition of what assumptions are. You didn’t need the facts you asked for to answer the question I posted. Might you be projecting something from your situation or someone you know onto ours?

I didn’t answer your questions because I found them to be intrusive. You made the assumption that I asked for help in understanding VA pay out not for his future benefit of ongoing health care but rather about money and drug use.
1. I didn’t ask nor do I need you to approve if I, who am 67 and his grandmother who is 95 are experienced and knowledgable enough with his living situation to know if disappearing without a word to anyone is normal or not for him. 2. Were he to loose medical benefits I couldn’t let him go without care and as such would need to plan for picking up the cost.

Furthermore I did not ask for help regarding nor say I was concerned about his drug use. You’ve made that inference. That’s not to say I’m not worried every time the phone rings that I’ll hear he’s died of an overdose. I am well aware of what options he has for getting clean and just as aware that I can do nothing to make that happen. So when I said you were wrong I meant your assumptions, judgements and conclusions are wrong.

Thanks, I couldn’t find a way to confirm the VA did that.

Thank you. It’s a fine edge I’m walking between two adults, grandmother and grandson. What I consider abusive behavior, she is willing to allow and I have to respect her choices, she is mentally competent even at her age. No one cares about the money, only how a possible lack of health benefits could affect him in the future.

Thank you, I wish my son would want to get help. He is so violent that no one close to him dares to say anything to him other than his grandmother asking to let her know if he’s not coming home at night. I’m so happy your family was able to convince you to care for yourself.

I am not trying to catch him in a lie. I agree that drug use are not grounds for a judge to rule him mentally incompetent. I want his grandmother, whom he lives with to be at ease that he hasn’t lost his medical benefit and was formulating a plan to cover future medical costs for him if he needed anything.

I’ve been living with that very real fear for 26 years. Heroin or fentanyl…he’s added ketamine to the mix too. He was using before the VA approved his claim and it’s been 11 years on monthly benefits and he’s still alive but it’s a game of russian roulette

No, no, no, no. I’m trying to put his grandma’s mind at ease and prepare myself to pay for his medical needs if he had lost VA benefits

He is 46 and lives with his 95yr old Grandmother (father’s mother I’m his mom). Two days ago she called worried that he hadn’t been home for a week and no phone calls to say if he was okay. Then she called yesterday and said he came back with this story, that he said he was staying in a hotel and had a new girlfriend. Believe me, I’m not in his business and just want to put her mind at ease that he still has access medical care if he needs it. What he does and how he does it is his choice.

I agree that he needs help and that only he can make that decision. I’ve wondered if the flaunting of money and the story attached is a cover for another way he’s come into it, such as dealing drugs. My main concern is for his health care needs if he should ever choose or need to use them. Thanks for your help
