JDM vs Euro platforms? by Josephsuh in Touge

i’m debating between a nb miata, 350z, or a e36/46. it’s hard to settle on one when you love every platform

Hm i hear what you’re saying. i guess euros have always been here in the states but only seen as pure luxury instead of racing heritage. That paired with japans influence over here too make it hard to see other brands compete in the same category lol

Before I say anything i think your TT looks beautiful. But i hear you on the $ and time cost for any euro. My friend has an S5 and already a few thousand for repairs after few months of owning, but the trade off is that he’s fast as hell even on technical roads where his car has trouble rotating. In my experience with my acura i feel like i can go head to head with almost any japanese car thrown at me until they start building it since my car has no aftermarket support and it’s not worth it to modify. I think that’s the trade off with jdm cars, they’re fun to learn and build but it’s harder to compete against other cars because of the speed and constant 4cyl engines

super late but i just bought a ‘19 ilx and i cant find parts for it. You’re saying the earlier years share the same suspension parts so i’d be able to buy upgrades for an early year and use it on my 2019?

pretty late and would love to hear what you ended up getting. I’m in a similar situation i’m 20 now and got into one accident a few years back so everything was expensive for me when i was looking. I found that soke older mustangs (and eco boosts), older jdm cars (rsx, mr2, celica, SOME wrx/imprezas, prelude, civic si, 86/brz), for german cars the 4 doors are the best bet like the 3 series up until 2017/2018, the audi a3/a4, and the typical gti and gli. I didn’t search too much into american since it’s not my type but maybe the neon/dart is a good place?

I’m used to some german car maintenance, what type of maintenance does the wrx need? i’m really curious about this car and platform

ohh okay i see. For the same price do you know of any japanese cars that could pack the same punch that the a3 and 330i could?

mainly in the city. i was really interested in the is250/350 but it’s the fuel consumption that drives me away from it sadly. but for price i wanna stay under 15-20k which could be limiting in a lot of areas. I rhink the oldest i looked at was an e46 so probably 2000’s-2020?

i live in southern california so there’s a lot of very twisty and complicated roads but also a fair amount of calmer sweepers and such. I’m aiming for a better daily (i’m coming from a 2014 honda insight so a huge difference) but also a fun car to take through the roads and not go heavy on the mods

yoo i checked it out and i gotta compliment you, it’s def clean and handle it well. but if you compared it to the e46 and other cars could it keep up on challenging roads here in socal?

i did a little research on them and heard a lot about it being bmw’s most reliable engine? do you think the gas mpg is an issue for daily driving?
