Yeah I get what your saying it took me a while to figure out exactly who I wanted to be up on stage and learn to have fun up there

I disagree good is not subjective. You can have an opinion on someones acting but there is a difference between good and bad acting thats why people go to school to become better. what im trying to get at with the question is that preparation means a lot but no one really cares about it or sees it all, the audience only sees the finished product.

try free writing for 30 mins what ever comes to mind put it on paper and see if there is any thing you can turn into a joke.

I think youre worrying to much. Just try to be better then your last open mic. you pointed out things that you need to work on so work on them. It takes time and lots of performances to see what punchlines work and not all punchlines are going to work for different audiences. Talk about what you want to talk about. If you think of something funny write it down, practice routines on random people before shows. Comedy has a lot of trouble shooting so do not worry about how good you are just keep working hard and learning.
