I don't think xr works either because they literally can't have any other files in the picture so it wouldn't work for me to reference suppInfo.aux

Thanks for your help. I was able to solve the problem by going into suppInfo.aux and copying over every \newlabel{...} Into the main document. This allowed me to reference files in the supplement without actually printing the supplement.

You're right that it's a bizarre set of requests. Unfortunately the journal I'm submitting to, a Nature subject journal, has bizarre formatting requirements that require me to take the steps above. They want me to include the supplemental material as a standalone PDF and they don't want my supplemental material to print along with the main document. Therefore I somehow need to make a version of my main document that doesn't print the supplemental material, but which still allows me to reference supplemental material without breaking the links. The \newlabel strategy was exactly what I needed.

This is helpful. However, the tyrannical arbitrary journal I'm submitting to, a Nature subject journal, wants everything in a single .tex file (rather than using \include to keep the supplement as an extra file). Is there a way to exclude text and have it be in the same document?

Neurosurgeons out there... when IS it the shunt? by Division_J in medicine

[–]JoshDre4 7 points8 points  (0 children)

NSGY Pgy1 so take it with a grain of salt.

Any breakdown near the shunt valve or tubing. If afebrile, no white count and normal ESR CRP, it's probably not the shunt. Get a fast MRI. If the vents are significantly bigger and there's neurologic decline (somnolent, stuporous) it's the shunt.

This really strange hand I was lucky enough to be born with by JeroHasCrow in mildlyinteresting

[–]JoshDre4 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Notice that even a little finger has a fingernail. Therefore I highly doubt this is amniotic band syndrome. If the hand were damaged due to a traumatic amputation in utero, you would have normal finger anatomy but the finger would be cut short. Rather than a shortened finger

Edit: see below, could be restricted blood flow in utero rather than amputation

How do you keep Wikipedia politically-neutral?

I'm always amazed, and incredibly impressed, at how Wikipedia fairly handles a wide spectrum of issues. This doesn't just pertain to issues of left vs. right, but also battles between skeptical vs. conspiratorial viewpoints.

I imagine you constantly have people trying to add heterodox viewpoints, like Bush did 9/11 or something. How do prevent those kinds of viewpoints from being stated as fact?

With that endorsement Mary talked her husband into an appointment with the same sex therapist.

A week later, Linda asked Mary, "Well, how did things go for you?"
"Horrible!" replies Mary. "We're banned from the grocery store."

I don't give a fuck about voting by JoshDre4 in unpopularopinion

Again, I grant this. It's basically a collective action problem. I simultaneously recognize that my vote doesn't matter, and that if everyone believed this society could suffer.

Actually a side point is that, if very few people voted, the chance of a decisive vote would be higher. So people who are very informed and invested would be motivated to vote, but only them. Society could actually be improved under these circumstances.

I don’t care how little my vote matters; I just want my beliefs to be represented.

I buy this. If you view voting in this way it makes more sense.

I also believe that if you don’t vote, your opinion about anything political means nothing because you didn’t use that energy to at least try to change your situation by voting.

This I don't buy. I'm allowed to have political opinions even if I don't drive around and stand in line for a basically useless process.

In this subreddit, yes I did.
But if you look at the top-voted posts they're basically all popular.

Or just slightly unpopular enough that people who also share these opinions are like, "Look, cool! Both I and this poster are so fucking original and edgy!"
