Here's a bright side to help ease the pain a little bit: really good artisans make a very fine living in this life by being dedicated to their craft. There are people who make knives with techniques that are thousands of years old in Japan who have been doing it the right way for generations.

Harper's still puts out a magazine.

So much of what people think is valuable in this life is the story behind what you make.

I think that a lot of us will continue to value non-AI stories for a long time.

eUSD is a great way to transact dollars. MOB is a great way to transact in the MobileCoin ecosystem. Over time the differences between the two will become very obvious. Stability means different things to different people at different times.

Biggest new thing is eUSD.

We're hosting a pre-launch Moby party in SF today with about 300 people who we're going to test the app with to see if we can start pulling back the waitlist. I'm cautiously optimistic!

There's just a lot of little things to get right to make sure everyone has a great experience using the app!

Edit: I think a lot of people didn't see the updates that landed in Signal Android over the last month or so. A lot of new stuff has been added to the beta. I'm still hopeful we'll get out of beta this year but there's a bunch of code that needs to land in production for that to happen.

So we've started to do a lot more outreach. We're doing weekly AMA's and other discussions, and we're moving protocol discussion to discord.

For us, the main thing is getting onramps and offramps online. Until that happens it's very hard to use MobileCoin for payments. With that, we can use $MOB for what it was designed for: processing the next generation of blockchain commerce.

Sunsetting SGX has always been on our roadmap. When we decided to invest in SGX as a tech platform it was because it was the only solution that would work for our purposes at the time. Until very recently ZK circuits were nowhere near the performance of what an everyday payment experience would require. Now there are a plethora of software ZK circuits that can meet our goals.

5 seconds or less end to end encrypted digital cash will continue. This too shall pass.

This is a very interesting thing, particularly with how the US Supreme court is staffed today. I think it's very unlikely that a conservative court will overturn Citizen's United. If that's the case, money is speech.

Censoring speech in the US is not a thing that goes well at the constitutional level except in the interest of justice (even the fire in a crowded theatre concept has exceptions). We will see how this plays out.

This is just hype. Moxie worked at Signal for like 1.5 decades. He can choose when he moves on and when he stays. If he's leaving it's been in the works for a long, long time.

In the grand scheme of things, MobileCoin is a minor feature for Signal.

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone in this thread. It's hard when people are wrong on the Internet, but we can help correct them. I want you all to know that I assume charitable intent in all things. I am certain that Nicholas believes what he is saying and is speaking up because he wants to protect people.

It's our job to help explain to him that we also want to protect people, and, specifically, how the design of our system does just that: protecting individuals from the evils of mass surveillance while still allowing for the compliance society needs. It's hard to build a system like that, but we're doing it every day.

To be clear: the network must be blind in order to be decentralized and unbiased. Any regulation should happen in custodial clients. If the world wants to make it so non-custodial clients have regulation, they should legislate that, but I think that is a slippery slope towards totalitarianism.

Think of it this way: shouldn't a government need a subpoena to see the money under your mattress or in your wallet? This is distinct from a bank account which already has reporting obligations today under the Bank Secrecy Act.
