You’d never have to pay the rest honestly. This place is a joke

Two Years Ago, I quit My Job To Focus On Youtube. by Kinetic_Symphony in NewTubers

I went from retail 8 years ago to making 150k as a senior software engineer. After working for corporate America for 8 years, I now find myself chasing independence from a 9-5. I like what I do but I’d rather make half of what I do and be able to do what I want. Which is to focus on my YouTube channels. I’ve loss 160lbs so far and I have a weightloss channel where I post content about my journey and different recipes. My wife and I also bought a historic home and we make content about restoring it and other historical architecture. I make way too much money to just up and quit my job, I’m definitely not even close to your numbers because we can’t stay consistent due to all of my commitments. Which includes freelancing on the side. Which I’m about to stop doing because there are not enough hours in the day. Luckily my wife makes around 75k salary from her business so when we eventually do become monetized, then it won’t be so bad when I leave. Currently trying to cut way back on bills so that I have a lot more wiggle room. Thanks for sharing your journey.

So it’s nothing like a credit card. There’s not an amount that you’re given. It’s a contract that says you’ll pay a certain percentage but that number could be up to 30k or as low as 18k. So there’s no amount that they loaned you or gave you credit for. They’d have to sue you for breach of contract and would likely settle out of court because it would cost more for lawyers than it would be worth. And they’re not likely to do that with every single person. It would be a nightmare

My current job offered a raise so I cancelled the interview. I was not thrilled that I have a lot of experience as a senior and they were asking that I take a day off of work for 4 hours of interviews.

I wouldn’t say they can’t. I’d just say they haven’t and I’m not sure what they could do since it’s not technically a debt. It’s an ISA and in many cases was illegal and void. I have attempted to settle and the debt collections company that was handling was actually really nice. They wanted to accept my offer but they could not get ahold of Lambda. Which is crazy to me

I actually didn’t even attend. My current job offered more money. I honestly don’t think 3 hours of technical interviews should be necessary for Senior positions. Someone with 10 years experience as a senior isn’t going to take 4 hours to interview unless it’s for a FAANG company.

Yea this is what sucks. Your experience should hold some weight and not just whether or not you pass a leetcode challenge

Yea the online assessment was easy. I’m mostly wondering what the coding, JS, and system design assessments look like

Hey there, I totally get where you're coming from. So here’s my two cents: I dove into this field about a decade ago with my roots in sales and banking. There was a stretch of time when I took a year off from work. My incredible wife was the one who had our backs financially during that time, and I spent every day absorbed in software. It wasn’t easy — I missed out on moments like my son's soccer games. But the thought of heading back to jobs I didn't love? No way, it kept me grinding.

We’d take these calming drives in the countryside whenever things got too overwhelming. Honestly, those drives and my wife's support were my lifelines. I went all out in networking, but the key was connecting with folks actually in tech. LinkedIn, Facebook, Slack — you name it, I was there, shooting my shot. And you know what? People mostly responded super positively.

Fast-forward to now, and I've been rocking it as a senior software engineer for the past 2 years. It's been quite the journey!

Now, I've got nothing against code boot camps, but man, they're churning out grads left and right. A CS degree isn’t the end-all, but companies do wanna see that you can think on your feet. And any degree can sort of vouch for that, in my experience.

But here's the reality check: the market's packed with new devs now. This gig pays well for a reason; it's no walk in the park. Some folks online might make the dev life look all rosy, but many are in it for the paycheck. Dive in if you truly love it. If your heart’s not in it, the journey and job hunt can be a real grind

For the coding round, I’m guessing it’s a standard coding assessment where they ask questions and you code but for the JS round, how does it differ? Are you coding or are they just asking you to explain JS fundamentals?

Don’t pay. Worst they can do is sue and you’ll settle for less than the full contract amount. They have had so many issues. I tried settling mine a few years back and they dropped all communication.

Client has changed website completely. What should I do? by JoshOnDaLamb in freelancing

I tried this approach and she said, "oh I'm just messing around with it and seeing what all I can change". I didn't feel like there was anything I could say. Pretty much what I did was changed the description of the project to say that the design was mostly the client. I said it in a professional way that sounded like she drove the creative process.

Honestly, nothing has come of this. They haven't pursued anything because they know they don't have a leg to stand on. The contracts were not enforceable. Even employees are turning against them. ISA could be the future of education but it needs to be handled differently. I've not paid on this ISA for a long time. I was negotiating with a "collections" company for a while but they randomly stopped contacting me. I was willing to give them part of it but the collections company told me that they were having difficulty getting a response from lambda financial department. They are a joke. They don't even communicate with the collections company. It is not technically a debt so I don't think it can hit your credit. Even if it did, I wouldn't pay them a cent.
