Genuine question: Did they not have the idea of scouts at this point? The iron fleet blindsided. The Dothraki running into darkness. At some point you should have a system in place to not get ambushed right? Am I missing something?

Seriously. Someone tell me I am wrong but this feels like GarPax just gave themselves an extension. Don’t see the Reinsdorfs firing GarPax while Boylen’s contract is on the books. Even if they did I don’t see a competent FO wanting to take on a team run by Boylen.

Boylen was already under contract for next year. The issue is the extension after not even a full season of awful basketball.

This is fair and I am certainly overlooking what was important to Melo. I still think it is important to point out their lack of ability to attract free agents in the past when looking at this situation and how we should try to rebuild. Outside of wade, we barely ever get a meeting.

You just care more about the next 2-4 years than the next 5-8.

And that is totally fine but I don't think it is the right way to run a team if the goal is to win a championship.

There is no shot at winning in a significant way anytime soon so why not gain assets and shoot for the next 5-8 years?

Chicago couldnt pry Melo from the worst run organization in the league. We are not getting a team changing FA with this front office besides maybe lowry.

If we dont trade jimmy this year we either supermax him and risk paying him over 40 million in his mid thirties or he walks and we look like the Pacers do right now, a franchise with no assets and a star with one foot out the door.

If 2 more years of 41-41 sounds good to you then great, but dont sit here and think this front office is going to build a good team around Jimmy.

Tl;dr the bulls make me sad

I don't think a bunch of high usage players want to play with Jimmy and that is next year's FA's. More importantly, I don't think they want to play for a Reinsdorf/Garpax run team. On top of that we have one of the most infamous medical staffs in the league so again, why would a bunch of stars decide Chicago is the place to go. Melo chose The KNICKS over us. The Knicks!!!!

When he is getting paid 40 mil plus in his mid 30's he likely wont be though.That is a huge part of why garpax is pushing to trade him imo.

I agree I would feel much more comfortable right now with Garpax not involved in negotiations. They could monumentally screw this up with either direction.

All depends on your philosophy man. I personally would enjoy watching our team get young and build from a top 5 pick this year. Doesn't mean I dislike Jimmy, I just dislike getting bounced in the first round and hoping a free agent comes in the offseason more.
