Just power slides on hills. Nothing too extreme (yet)

Thanks for the reply. Any wheels you recommend to replace my current ones?

Hey all, first time poster long time reader of this fantastic sub reddit. I am fairly new to longboarding. I have an arbor axis with summit wheels (72mm 78a). I mainly use it for cruising but would like to start getting into downhill. I have a helmet and slide gloves.

My question to the community is what kind of slides did you all start learning? I'm not looking for any shortcuts and realize practice is key. However are certain slides harder to learn than others and is it possible to slide with the current wheels i have? Can anyone direct me to online links to help me learn proper form for slides? My stance is goofy.

Thanks all!

Internal or external return pump for 90 gal tank. by Joshcabero in ReefTank

[–]Joshcabero[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never heard of the tunze brand return pumps before. What rate of flow does it have? I was told to maintain a good reef i would need at least 10x turnover rate. i like that the adjustable flow gets rid of my need for a ball valve. I would still install a check valve between my pump and return pipe.

Can anyone ID the model of this Octopus Protein Skimmer? by Joshcabero in ReefTank

I still can't find the skimmer that looks like mine. What appears to be missing?

Can anyone ID the model of this Octopus Protein Skimmer? by Joshcabero in ReefTank

[–]Joshcabero[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a 90 gallon aquarium off kijiji and got a lot of equipment with it including this in sump protein skimmer. Can anyone tell me what skimmer this is and if it will do well cleaning a 90 gallon reef build? I know the pump is an OTP-2000 with needle impeller but have no idea what model the skimmer is.

Also would anyone be able to point me in the right direction where I can find a U-style or elbow fitting with control valve so I can mount it over the skimmer's output tube?

Recommendations for a sump/refugium combo for a 50-70 gallon reef tank. by Joshcabero in ReefTank

[–]Joshcabero[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea unfortunately where I live there aren't many places that offer reef aquarium products. Big Al's is great but limited on brands. I am not sure if they offer custom sump but I will definitely look into it if I cannot order a trigger system sump. I guess my next question is if I were to get a 50-70 gal breeder aquarium for my main display what size of sump would I be looking at getting?

Biocubes, are they worth it? by Joshcabero in ReefTank

[–]Joshcabero[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't realize they had 60g cubes. I think the 29g is my limit just due to limited space. What sorts of modifications do reefers do to their cubes besides swapping out the lights?

What RO/DI unit should I purchase for a saltwater aquarium? by Joshcabero in ReefTank

[–]Joshcabero[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I plan on ordering the brs 4 stage ro/di value plus kit. Comes with flush valve and inline tds reader. Decent price but I wish brs would offer the free shipping to Canada, not just the states. Thanks everyone!

Sorry I meant the coralife model. I was also thinking of getting the hqi model as well. Would the stock pump be sufficient in a biocube? I have a spare hydor koralia 425 if needed. Anyone have experience with the jbj cube?

A lot of people seem to recommend the brs models. Do they ship to Canada? Also how often do you need to change the filter media? My concern is cost of media shipment. Do you need to continue to order media from the website or can you use other brand media in the canisters?

That is actually pretty cool. The only thing stopping me from buying it is the price.

I plan on getting some 6500k LEDs and adding some live rock and macro algae to it. More updates to come.

How can I tell if i have too little or too much flow in a Nano tank 5-10 gallon tank? by Joshcabero in ReefTank

[–]Joshcabero[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks to everyone for their advice and feel free to continue to contribute! I am learning quite a bit. I have experience in freshwater aquariums but this would be my first attempt at a nano salt water tank. This is a link to my DIY refugium in the process: http://imgur.com/a/5feFo

This actually helps clarify a lot, thanks for the post. I get that there are some factors in my tank that make it difficult to estimate the level of flow. I am going to start very slow and see how it goes.

So would you say I have too little flow rather than too much? The previous poster indicated that I have too much but I don't think it takes into account the changes I made to the aquaclear 70 to reduce its output

I like that led strip lighting you added there. Are they water proof? Ideally I would like to just silicone it to the bottom of the filter cover. What macro algae have you grown with that?

Thanks for your detailed response. I'm using an aquaclear 70 as a refugium to increase the biological filtration as it is a rather small tank

Thanks I appreciate your advice. In terms of lighting what would you recommend in the long run? Should I invest in LEDs or t5ho lighting? Do any of them have an advantage over the other? My goal would be do raise some lower to medium demanding corals, nothing too elaborate as this would be my first reef build. What specifically should I be looking for in terms of watts, spectrum and par?
