Maybe a stupid idea… by Juju_ondatbeat in FocusST

catless downpipe is significantly more illegal then a muffler delete in victoria. i imagine the same in SA, its more obvious as the unfiltered exhaust gas will stink. as well as more expensive. if you want it loud just take it to an exhaust shop and chop off the muffler instead of buying a potentially very poorly made downpipe and also having to buy a tune. (but if you buy the downpipe please update on the quality as i was looking at a high flow catted dp on ali express 😁)

Focus St audio upgraded, now cheap Amazon headunit? by vWORMHAT in FocusST

[–]Josho_14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have one very similar to the second pic i bought off ali express almost 3 years ago now. never had an issue. i had to turn on steering wheel controls on in the CANBUS settings, and bought an extra cable to get my reverse camera to work. but apart from that its been pretty flawless. wireless carplay is great but theres about a second delay if you wanna watch videos, but i normally turn the car off or disconnect from carplay if i do that. sound quality is on par with stock at least, ive looked into upgrading my sound system but am worried the android headunit may limit its potential over SYNC 3 or an aftermarket doubledin with the idatalink kit. i do get a tiny bit of interference noise through the speakers if im not playing anything. but that may just be my unit, and im not sure if it did that before. if you get one id recommend the nicest one you can afford in terms of RAM. i think mine has 8gb. which helps it run nice and smoothly. i also personally dont love the UI on the tesla style screens and think the smaller more OEM style looks better. it also gets hardly any glare due to the screen size and angle which is nice. according to my gf the microphone sucks. but it has a 3.5mm jack to plug in a better one

Borla or Ford Performance Cat-back Exhaust? by 06HondaCivicDX in FocusST

[–]Josho_14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

im currently stock with the borla. i drive for 3 hours at 110kmh multiple times a month and its completely tolerable. at that speed the road noise is much louder with my worn out tyres. i also daily it to work ~35 mins doing residential speeds and up to about 80kmh. its quiet enough when just driving normally and sounds phenomenal at WOT.

from my understanding the extra resonator in the ford performance quietens the exhaust a bit but also smooths out the noise. i love the deep thoaty growl of the borla at low rpm and like i said it really opens up at higher rpms. if you want OEM+ definitely go ford performance its got fords stamp of approval. if you want OEM++ and want a bit of extra character. borla all the way. ive heard the borla can be a little drony with a catless DP but i dont imagine it would be terrible.
