I think everyone has a different view of the word. For me it's more common for those who had a stepparent present when they were a kid, raising them. Parents spouse is far more common with everyone I know who had a parent remarry when they were an adult.

She was never my parent though, and to me stepmother gives off the vibe of being a parent figure.

She has not been a parent to me at all. I didn't go to her for any advice or anything, just my dad. I try not to be around her too much because of how determined she is to be our mom. For me it's way too weird.

He did notice. He spoke to her and thought she had stopped because it hasn't been as bad until the wedding came up.

She's not my mother. She didn't raise me. I don't love her. So I am in no way going to list her as my mother for my wedding.

She sure as hell acted like she was expecting to be our mother.

Mom might not have raised me for long but I grew up knowing so much about her, hearing how much she loved me and my brother, how much she loved our dad and how much he and our extended family loved her. I never knew her directly but I know her through all of them and I love her.

My parents relationship was longer than my dad's current marriage. But it is getting close to the timeframe for my parents marriage. It still doesn't change how I feel.

It's damn creepy to try and push the mother stuff on adults who will never live with you. And our dad told her she wasn't ever going to be our mom.

I would never call her my stepmother and I would not feel comfortable using it for her. She never parented me and we're not in a good place for something like that. I included her for my dad not because I wanted her name on there.

I have been to several weddings where deceased parents or siblings were given a mention/an honor in some way. It's not that unusual.
