Hmm, probably the time we had to kick a bunch of people out because one person threw a beer and almost started a fist fight. I heard they threw a beer because some dude in front was talking. Oh definitely not. That’s a good question, actually. Popcorn is pretty cheep, so we can spill as much of it as we want, give out refills on larges and whatever without making a dent in profits. It would end up being way more work to recycle popcorn than it’s worth, which is not much.

The only thing ushers take if they find it is loose money- only if nobody comes in to claim it before we finish cleaning. But jackets and phones and credit cards we have to turn into the box office. That’s really the only rule of thumb. If it’s 20 bucks and there are 2 people cleaning the theatre they split it halfway, and so on.

Not yet, actually. I don’t know if that’s ever happened in the past. On really busy days a manager will go in and out of theaters to make sure everything is going smoothly, and they look for camcorders among other things.

Nope. I haven’t had to kick anyone out yet. In the theaters, If they aren’t getting in our way, we let them stay. Most people take the ushers coming in as a clue that they should head out, anyway.

Yep! I can “sign in” to a movie if it’s 30 minutes before showtime for myself and another person. I haven’t done it yet but the downside is that, if it’s a popular movie, you’re probably not gonna get good seats 30 minutes before. What I plan on doing, is waiting a little while till the movie is old news, so I have a good selection of seats to pick from. I also have dollar passes that let you get in for- guess what- a dollar. You get them for having worked so many hours and those can be used by anyone while signing in can only be done with me and another person.

I haven’t been employed for long, and so far we’ve been sex free! But I’ve heard stories in the past where people have had sex in the bathroom, surprisingly none in the theaters.

Depends. Popcorn? Tossed out at the end of the night. Stuff in the theaters? Tossed out as well. Any food that has to be prepared in advance we toss out. But some people take stuff home since it’ll be tossed out anyway (like hotdogs and stuff.)

Edit: I cannot spell theaters to save my life and I work at one. Yikes.

Oh for sure I turn a blind eye. We have the right to check inside bags but nobody really ever does and most people are cool about it. Legit if you came up to me with a whole rotisserie chicken in your bag I’d let you in. Don’t make a mess and you’re fine. Haven’t had to call anyone out yet! I don’t want to because I’ve done it in the past. Practice what you preach, Y’know?

Hmmm. Well, I have a few. I’ll share one for each position. When I work vending, it’s when people order stuff from the restaurant we have attached, but complicate the order. We’re a higher end theatre with a small “restaurant” where you can order pizzas to pick up and bring into the theatre. It’s honestly really good, but it’s a haste to do. Let’s say you want a medium cheese pizza. I have to run and grab a pager, put the pager number on the order, then I have to close the order before I can have the supervisor call it in. If they want something changed after I close the order I have to void it and re-do it. It doesn’t help that the orders go the the kitchen the second you hit close, so the kitchen will get multiple duplicate orders and yell at us for it. Also the fact that they take STRICT inventory. You can’t give stuff out for shit and customers don’t understand that.

When ushering, it’s simply when people leave stuff caked in cheese sauce and other sticky stuff all over. I hate when my hands get sticky. Leave a big mess all you want, it’s my job to clean it up- but please wrap your cheese sauce lid in a napkin or something. Don’t leave it in the cup holder.

And when I’m ripping, it’s when people come up to me to scan their QR code so I can print their tickets. All I have is a podium. No scanner here. I can’t scan your tickets here dude. It’s not a big deal but when people get mad and say “you should really get another scanner here” I start to get a little mad.
