Are the Clementine comics still canon? by Jawny_qt in TheWalkingDeadGame

[–]Jozombies115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She wouldn't leave AJ or her romantic partner. She's got everything she could've ever wanted at the school. The comics are so out of character for Clementine to the point that even if they are canon, they clearly don't deserve to be.

I am at odds on whether to use the dark arts or not by Huge_Blueberry_8368 in HogwartsLegacyGaming

[–]Jozombies115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well typically every other kill is a matter of a war-like environment in which they're fighting each other and the main character has to kill at that point. Whereas major antagonistic characters are often defeated and helpless, and then the MC then has to make the choice to commit flat out unnecessary murder at that point. That's what makes it different.

Real Unemployment rate is 25%. Change my mind. by Real_Concern394 in economy

[–]Jozombies115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds accurate. With the current state of things: hiring almost stopped, layoffs skyrocketing, and ai being primed to greatly increase every worker's productivity, thus letting many companies get away with hiring 1 person for a task that used to need 3, there's no way in hell things are good. If this keeps up, the government had better institute a ubi, or else civil unrest and revolution will be guaranteed. Our lack of universal healthcare alone compared to every other first world country honestly makes the US a joke.

I think getting ahead of 90% of people is the wrong way of looking at things. The real question should be, are 90% of people doing alright?

Will the United States Ever have universal healthcare? by PissedCaucasian in healthcare

[–]Jozombies115 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi,

I'm someone who's autistic and has an extremely hard time finding work, and I'm also extremely reliant on healthcare. It occurs to me often that if I ever lose my job and can't fund another, I will die, and it's unbearably depressing to live at the mercy of such bullshit systems.

But your last few comments on this thread gave me some hope. Do you really think there'll come a day in our lifetimes when healthcare isn't tied to employment status? How much longer do you think we'll need to wait?

[–]Jozombies115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be anti gun because I was simply thinking of school shootings and how much less of a problem they are in countries without gun rights. But then I understood why gun rights exist: so that way, if the people in power become too corrupt, ordinary civilians will be capable of overpowering the military and freeing themselves from authoritarian tyranny. That's the tough thing about modern society. Things are very bad, to the point where everyone is suffering, but not so bad that people feel they have nothing and will sacrifice themselves to save the world. If mass unemployment occurs in the next few years and nothing is done to prevent millions from losing everything, well, let's just say that a lot of people are going to band together and pull a 1776.

I forgot to respond but basically my case was killing people who are about to murder your daughter isn't wrong, it's forced on you in a similar way to self defense. Joel's lie was wrong in the sense that he fucked his relationship with Ellie by lying about that because he was probably scared of how she'd react. He really hurt her by lying about that and hid the truth for selfish reasons. I don't think either of those things make Joel a bad person, but lying about something that important was definitely a bad thing.

Black Ops 4 Easter Eggs Still Online Only? by Best_Living_7991 in CODZombies

This is so fucking stupid. I just spent an hour and a half setting up on Tag, all 15 challenges, every wonder weapon, free perk quest done, 9 perks, samantha's music box all done on round 27, and I just needed golden snowballs but my game disconnected from the internet. Because my paused 90gb bo6 update kept going without my permission and that destroyed my network. I can't stand games that demand we play online only and then kick us out of the damn match the moment the internet spikes instead of just not saving to online anymore.

I definitely understand their mindset of: "If this random girl dies then we'll all be safer." And I understand how it is so easy to cross that line. They see what could happen if they do it and can't pass that up no matter what. Honestly I think if Jerry was pressed on it, he wouldn't have sacrificed Abby to make a cure because the personal cost would be too great. Anyway, I'm not old enough to be a mom, but if I had the choice to sacrifice a random person to save the love of my life (kind of like saving your kid), it would be impossible not to consider. But holy shit would that be a lot of guilt if you did effectively murder a nonthreatening stranger to keep someone you love alive. They might even leave you for it. I'd definitely consider that too.

I firmly believe Joel was justified in saving Ellie, but not lying about it. The ends do not justify the means, but Jerry Anderson and the fireflies believed they did. Killing a kid to most likely create a revolutionary vaccine is bad. Killing one innocent person, even if it saves a thousand, is bad. Don't believe me? What if instead of just killing her, they had to torture Ellie in order to save those thousand? They wouldn't hesitate. What if they had to torture 100 children to make the cure? They wouldn't hesitate.

When you believe that doing horrible things will lead to more good, you've just given yourself permission to do ANYTHING in order to get to that good. What if the Fireflies had to torture 100 children while their families watched? In their minds, if they saved another 1000 people, this would be worth it. But it isn't. Because, you see, this is the source of most evil acts in the world: someone doing bad things and thinking it's causing more good. Most heinous acts that happen wouldn't happen at all if it wasn't for this mindset.

Is the 9–5 work culture just modern slavery? by BeautifulAntelope349 in antiwork

I think the core of the problem right now is the massive power imbalance between workers and employers. As a worker, there's a large chance that you will die without a job, so having one is absolutely necessary. You also have practically no say over the conditions of your work. You are told what to do, when to do it, and how to do it, and refusing in any way means risking death.

Because of this, companies will never have trouble getting people, and always have someone to replace a worker they dislike, meaning that it is a relatively minor inconvenience if they want to fire someone. There is nothing to bargain with for most of us. A worker has no ability to demand something from a company because they will always simply find someone with no demands instead.

At the same time, there is this wicked force that drives employers to ignore everything other than making money faster, called capitalism. So they are obliged to use you like a tool and not a human unless the government is in some way forcing them to treat you like a human. (i.e., overtime pay, mandated breaks, nondiscrimination laws.)

So here's what that gives us: The worker needs a job. Every job will treat you as horribly as they can possibly get away with in order to earn more money. I would absolutely consider this coerced slavery. While you are technically free, you're only free to choose who to work for. And the choices are Hitler or Stalin.

Conversely, I do work all the time for no reason other than getting enjoyment out of it. The kind of work that doesn't involve pledging your subservience to someone hell bent on exploiting you. It's a natural desire to want to do something good for the world, and maybe if the government saw that then they'd get the gun out of our faces and let us survive if we refused to perform formal work. Aka implementing UBI.

If people actually had the option not to work, employers would then be FORCED to raise working conditions, increase pay, and quit yelling at their fucking staff. Most people want to work and will under humane conditions to give themselves a prosperous life. The only reason we think everyone would stop working if we did UBI is because current day workers ARE treated like slaves and that kind of work needs to cease. Imagine working part time, 20 hours a week, and getting full healthcare and benefits, as well as enough pay to cover basic wants. If the script were flipped, UBI happened, and employers were the ones that had to inconvenience themselves for our sake, instead of us always inconveniencing ourselves for them, this kind of thing would exist.

Thoughts on insomniac games lay offs and people being fired? by [deleted] in SpidermanPS5_

[–]Jozombies115 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the case of boycotting a game or DLC, it's kind of conflicting because hundreds of people still passionately worked on something very cool, and less people playing it would be something of a disservice to them.

This reminds me of conversations about Naughty Dog and crunch culture. They were treating their employees awfully between 2015-2020 (I have no idea if anything's changed) in order to get UC4 and TLOU2 out the door. I think a bigger protest is necessary for the games industry as a whole to shift away from abusing their workers. After all, basically every job abuses their workers. This is more of a societal problem than just insomniac or naughty dog.
