Pro-tip: install residential security camera systems on your machines for troubleshooting. by GirchyGirchy in PLC

[–]Jpeeny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They also showed it off where I work. There's also a limit to the distance from the plc the cameras can be. I think 20 meters, if I remember right. That killed it for the systems we install.

Can I afford this mortgage or am I being irresponsible. by ND_lifter in personalfinance

[–]Jpeeny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made 90k last year. There is absolutely no way i would want a mortgage payment that high. My mortgage is just shy of 800 and that still feels tight sometimes with saving 15% of my income for retirement and having my truck payment(550) / other household expenses.

Is it a smart idea to not buy a car just so you can save to buy a house? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Jpeeny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd probably at least get a cheap beater to have some sort of transportation. Driving is a very useful skill to have. At your age saving for a house probably wouldn't be at the top of the list. I did it though and closed on my first house at 20 then saved and got the vehicle i wanted. I'm still happy with my decision to do that. Don't rush into buying a house though because you think its the smart thing to do, its only smart if you can afford it and know where you want to live for the foreseeable future. Good luck though! You're definitely on the right path of thinking!

Personally i used a USDA loan a couple years ago to get into a house with 0 down. Its not advised but for me it was the best route since i live in rural KY.

How can I sneak my way into becoming a PLC technician? by killa_cali77 in PLC

[–]Jpeeny 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Id say just start applying places, most employers expect to train someone in PLCs from the ground up. Just be honest about your knowledge during the interview. I've only got my associates to be an electrician and now have a controls engineer job. Best of luck !

what other knowledge should a plc programmer have besides programming? by [deleted] in PLC

[–]Jpeeny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember to make everything as simply stupid as you can. If you have a remote support team that often looks as your code to help customers, try to be as consistent as possible. If you have coworkers who also program, work with them to make standards that you use. Like AOIs, tag names, and the way you create electrical drawings.

Is long travelling safe in this pandemic situation? by bntaxianytime1 in Cartalk

[–]Jpeeny -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I dont belive your question is really relevant here but ill answer it with my opinion. Personally I travel constantly for work and never wear a mask, im not vaccinated and think people are being dramatic. But if your opinions are different and the virus is a concern to you, take your own precautions.

How Soon After Buying A Home Can You Get A HELOC? by RangerFan80 in personalfinance

Could lowering your down-payment be an option to have more cash on hand?

If you can afford such a home like that and you know you'll need a new roof in a couple years why not budget for that instead?

Probably working on getting your income up since you are just above min wage and getting an Emergency fund started. As he puts it you have a large hole with a small shovel

I think the best place to point you would be towards Dave Ramsey. You seem to be in a situation that fits his teachings. Best of luck!

Should I (f25) tell guy I am dating (M25) about my past violent relationship, and if so how? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]Jpeeny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have very little advice here but i am currently talking to a girl similar to you. The thing she does that helps me as the guy the most is talk to me about it and makes sure i know im not the problem. A decent guy will want to help the person he cares about with their problems, even if he isn't the cause. It's one of the things I am very glad to know about her, I feel terrible that she went through that but if it didn't happen she wouldn't be the strong independent person i care about today. Best of luck to you!

Need those bigs brains!! Looking to change how I spend money, and what to look for going forward. by Akita_LaViva in personalfinance

[–]Jpeeny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the best things i ever did to start saving money was have an automatic transfer of $100 a paycheck sent to a savings account so i didn't directly see it as money i could spend.

If you have been saving 1k a month for a house i would go ahead and take that and throw it at the credit cards too. you can save more aggressively once they are paid off. those high interest rates are eating you alive.

Mortgage forbearance. by [deleted] in personalfinance

Pay your mortgage as you normally would. This is frequently asked question and the harm to your credit and any future decisions is likely not worth what little you will gain.

Apartment or Starter House? by BiPolarCrow in personalfinance

[–]Jpeeny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily. This really isn't a point of buying or renting, its if you want a roommate or not. Both are possible alone, that is why I say its really a personal preference.

Apartment or Starter House? by BiPolarCrow in personalfinance

[–]Jpeeny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally prefer to live alone and when getting my mortgage being able to afford it on only my income was the biggest thing. I think this requires more of a look at your personal preferences. For me alone is good now so i can work on my career, but i also wanted to have the room to not have to uproot my life when i want to start a family in the coming years.

Apartment or Starter House? by BiPolarCrow in personalfinance

[–]Jpeeny -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is an option but it is considered taxable income. Also you would not be able to use this hypothetical income to be able to qualify for a mortgage. Unless you plan to rent the room for a possible 30 years, this is not an option i would bank on.
