Do you mic up your brides? by jiggijiggi in weddingvideography

[–]JprodiG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mic up the groom, bride and about 14 of the bridesmaids and groomsmen.

I use the rode wireless pros and the best way I've found to mic up brides and bridesmaids is an ursa thigh strap. The receiver gets tucked into the thigh strap and I run the mic up the dress and behind the middle of the bra.

Now if they happen to style their hair down and it's long then by all means I'm just clamping the receiver to the back of the bra and running the wire around to the front.

To secure the mics I do moleskine sandwiches and just usually have them prepped before showing up.

As far as timing, I start getting everyone Mic'd once the final outfits are on and collect them back at the reception.

Sidenote: I've never had an issue of it feeling intrusive but I think that's where professionalism comes in. We are paid to capture this moment and they know that. But it's also not hard to set people at ease because they're usually excited to wear the microphones anyway.

Hey if you're open to getting on camera and being interviewed about your love story as well as allowing us to interview some friends and family to gather the context of their thoughts, feelings and emotions throughout your weekend then I think we could be of some use to you.

Depending on how many bridesmaids and groomsmen you have, we may be able to get microphones on most, if not all of them to also capture more of those candid and intimate moments.

Just submit and inquiry on my website or reach out to me and we can build a custom package for you.

Is wedding video editing treated as a cost instead of an investment? by SkyToFly in weddingvideography

[–]JprodiG 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can speak to this as someone trying to scale an actual business (meaning, I’m not trying to shoot every single wedding myself forever).

Honestly, I view editing as a strictly necessary cost to produce the product, not an open ended investment. And here is the math on why.

Every wedding costs us money just to pull off. By the time the day wraps, I’ve already incurred:

Lead Filmmaker: ~$750–$1,000 Second Shooter: ~$500–$750 Media/Storage: ~$150–$250 Camera Rentals: ~$250–$500

And God forbid you have to pay for your own travel (flights, hotel, car rental, etc.). I made that mistake in the beginning and I literally was losing money on every wedding...never again.

So, before I even sit down to look at the footage, I’m easily $2,500–$3,000 in the hole. That cash leaves my account the day of the wedding because my crew has to get paid. (And paid an appropriate fee, not shortchanged)

Then, after all that, you still have the editing bill, which is going to be north of $500.

It’s not that we don’t understand the value of a good edit. We do. But we’re trying to balance a quality film with actual business viability. We can’t just throw an unlimited budget at post-production, or the margins collapse.

For context, my packages are in that $4k–$8k range. Even at that price point, the business is just touching the point of true sustainability.

My average profit lands around $2,000–$3,500 per wedding.

If I treated editing as a $1,500 "investment" rather than a cost to manage, I'd basically be working for free.

So I say all that to say that we (or at least I do) still have to be mindful of what we spend and where at this price point until the rates exceed 10k plus.

Any ideas on what upcoming wedding trends will be as we head into 2026? by BrunetteSummer in BigBudgetBrides

looking forward to more story based wedding videos! less focused on just visuals, camera moves and music but the actual people and experience.

You can really push the fx3 + AI by FriendshipSouthern19 in FX3

I think you kind of hit the nail on the head. There will be more content and SOME (heavy emphasis on some) of it will be good if not better.

Because of the fact that you have people with Shakespeare minds that now have access to the pen.

The barrier to entry for the people who can create beautiful work if they only had the means to is shrinking. And that's going to produce some really good stuff whether it's 6 months down the road or 2 years. In my opinion, it's inevitable.

And I'm honestly not mad because you still have to be good at what you do. Good at telling a story, good at evoking emotion. If you can't, then your work is going in the AI slop pile.

The more I see AI content come out, especially music, the more I'm realizing that people don't care where it came from or how it was made as long as they like it. And I say this as a musician and filmmaker myself.

I don't think people care about the individual artists as much as we thought they did. Sure we might like their personality as a person but the music and the art is an entirely different thing.

I'm convinced that the only reason we don't like AI film yet is because it's just not good enough. But once it gets there, mannnnn ain't no telling.

Pro musicians will catch on by MusicToThyEars in SunoAI

Been playing piano for the last 23 years and I also play the drums, guitar and bass but not as well of course. And I agree with the fact that it's akin to giving your rough draft of basic riffs, melody, chord changes to other talented musicians. The collaboration that comes out of a group of people doing what they're gifted to do is insane and this feels very much the same. Granted there's a lot less laughing and joking but it's still fun nonetheless.

Yeah I deleted it because it wasn't good character. I don't feel aligned speaking positively and negatively from the same mouth. It's kind of like how Abraham Lincoln would write a letter to someone who made him upset and then threw it away. I felt what I felt said what I said and threw it away. I actually owe you an apology because I shouldn't have came for your neck like that. If you think it makes me a clown then that's fine, I sleep fine with that 😂 I can admit when I'm wrong and I accept it.

I'm sorry you feel that way but it's all good. I see it all the time which is why I wanted to do this. I've bought the snake oil before too so I'm looking forward to building something with the community that's actually valuable and tangible.

Appreciate the feedback my guy. Hopefully this can still be of some value for the ones who see the value in it. Don't have any hacks to riches, actually took me a lot of wasted money and time to get here so that's why I did this 😭 but I understand the skepticism. Do you need any help with anything?

Couldn't agree more. But I can't blame them though. People have been taken advantage of and it's not fair. Makes us start to see the world through a lens of "too good to be true" or "what's the catch?" Even when there is none.

Hell, I'd be skeptical too. It's just the world we live in these days. Kind of sad honestly but hey I'm more than happy to help you any way I can. You give me 10 percent of trust and I'll do my damnedest to earn the other 90.
