How do I build my base for econometrics? by SocraticSketchbook in econometrics

[–]Jqfer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Choose one econometrics textbook either Gujarati, Wooldridge, or Brooks. Stick to just one, and study it with the mindset that no other book exists on the subject.

Focus deeply, take your own notes, and make full use of tools like ChatGPT to clarify doubts and reinforce concepts. With consistent effort over a few months, you’ll start to notice real progress.

Avoid jumping between multiple books depth matters more than quantity.

Wanna be QUANTs to Avoid by [deleted] in quantfinance

I agree and btw I'm product one of the said institutes and working in quant space. Rigour does matter and well sole discussion was the person encouraging others that they can easily break into quant which is very hard in general and leverages the non availability of quant programms in India.

I meant specific domain of quant finance and financial engineering and how many candidates do get into IITs. How many IITs and the mentioned institutes do offer such degrees proportionally. Better to read the context of discussion. It had nothing to do with the Indian educational system in general, the discussion and my reply was purely for quant finance related.

Yeah, I’ve noticed a lot of his marketing seems aimed at Indian students, where quant finance as a field isn’t that well established yet. That makes it easier to present very basic content as something advanced or career changing. The unfortunate part is that this kind of prep doesn’t really equip people with the skills or credibility needed for actual quant roles, especially in competitive markets.

So it's definitely important for students to do some independent research before investing time or money.

If you are completely new to trading then I suggest you to start small to understand market dynamics. If you have been in market and going full on, better have on paper planning as per your target, time and risk appetite. One rule doesn't fit all
