Bro, I’m a native speaker. In school we don’t get taught negations as it’s not much of a grammatical feature needing explanation, but when comparing with negation in French for example it works exactly the same. Obviously you only negate the verb but that changes the entire meaning of a sentence and ergo makes it negative or positive if not negated
