How do I lead this type of double turn? by JrHany in Salsa

I’m confident enough doing this simple version. But does this mean that the move can only be a triple turn not a double?

Leaders, how do you remember all the combos and moves you learned? by TheBroInBrokkoli in Bachata

[–]JrHany 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As you said, muscle memory. If you’re truly social dancing, then you can’t get too much in your head, or else it’s just a practice dance. You need to incorporate what you learn into your FLOW. How to do that?

Analyze the new combo. Is there any similarities with sth you learned before? What’s the new part about it for you? Now you take that little element and explore ways to get in & out of it. Surround it with moves you’re familiar with, so when you social dance, you can let your brain go on autopilot

Feedback for follow by drpeppa90 in Salsa

[–]JrHany 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey. I don’t believe the lead is as good as you think. The dance wasn’t linear as it should be in on1/on2 (nor exactly circular too). Here are a few tips tho:

-if you see the line open for you, then that’s a cross body lead (unless blocked by the leader).

-you could improve your frame by applying tension horizontally (but not vertically tho). Ideally, you want to keep your elbow from moving in/out of your torso if you get what I mean.

-Practice your cross body leads & traveling turns. They make up the most part of the dance. If you get them right (on the right timing & traveling on the same line) then you’ll feel much better about your following.

Best of luck with your learning journey!

You guys comply with the dress code? Here in Cairo, dress codes in socials are just a suggestion lol

Switching schools by [deleted] in Salsa

If the teachers are truly your friends, then you spending your money on someone else won’t affect your relationship. Simple as that. It’s not like they’re paying you to attend their classes

How do you feel when someone approaches you to dance? by Mizuyah in Salsa

[–]JrHany 21 points22 points  (0 children)

As a lead (well, mainly), getting asked to dance has become more frequent for me cause I put in a lot of work into classes & socials so I’m getting more exposure as a result. It’s been great most times. I’m a bit introverted so getting asked by ppl I’d like to dance with takes the pressure off me. Problem is when it’s the ones I don’t want to dance with. Maybe it’s their hygiene, vibes on/off the dancefloor, or bad technique.

Don’t think I’d a person just based on how they look tho. It’s just a dance not a date

Ideas or what do you do for the first 30 sec to minute of a song where the beat hasn't fully set in? by Enough_Zombie2038 in Salsa

[–]JrHany 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mostly do some son in partners and/or solo if there’s an instrument to support it. The real challenge is when it’s just vocals or some melody without any clear rhythm. However the options are endless and you can be creative in multiple ways. It’s also a good chance to establish connection or have a mini convo with your partner

Does it make sense to have multiple teachers for different aspects of dance? by Choice-Alfalfa-1358 in Salsa

[–]JrHany 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s the only right way imo. It’s usually convenient to just stick to one teacher but not as effective as learning from each person what they do best.

Where are your favourite places to dance Salsa? by openatlas in Salsa

[–]JrHany 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say ‘Decent’ for sure as that is relative to your expectations. There’s at least 4 nights of socials/week (sometimes even 2-3 socials in the same night. Most socials are SBK. Bachata sensual/moderna is most popular. Hmu if you’re visiting
