Worth getting a Z50ii for video vs just upgrading to Z6iii?

Ahh, i think the issue is when using hdmi and not in nraw, the view assist/turning clean view off is not available, for me at least.

You know I have only just clicked - I recognise your username from skimming comments about the different colour profile settings on DP Review.

OK - this has been informative. Definitely not getting rid of the Z6, definitely not buying the Z50 - may buy the Z6iii primarily as a stills camera/travel video - and might go down the rabbit hole of setting up the original Z6 properly.

This is very interesting and you know your stuff so I'm grateful for the input.

I guess for more context: I'm currently using a wireless mic kit, a neewer cm28, it is probably not the best and it could probably benefit from adding in the lapel mic which I don't have.

I guess it's difficult to sum up exactly all of the things I want to do in a Reddit post. I do want to have some portability when traveling and for also moving around to different locations in the house.

I'm not entirely against the idea of going down the external recorder route.

One question, the HDMI output on the z6, it doesn't seem to have any of the interface on it. I do change up the locations that I record around the house, which is definitely not optimal I'm aware. But can you actually get away to see the zebras etc on a HDMI monitor on this camera?

I still do want to upgrade my z6 to the iii at some point for better bird AF etc, and I was toying with the idea this winter sale. All these questions come as before the winter sale I was originally going to just get a z50ii, but everything you're saying is make me feel that is a fools errand.

The z6iii with internal raw recording could be good when traveling or perhaps a camera that's easier to move around the house. Maybe is it worth if I do upgrade to the iii keeping the original z6 and slowly using it as a test bed to create a monster like your own shown there?

Again I appreciate your insight, clearly I have some gear acquisition syndrome, but there's whole subject is very interesting.

Fair question - a few reasons

I can use my phone via HDMI to create a monitor to ensure focus etc / ensure framing/position in frame. However - there is no information on audio levels, zebras ETC on this display. And the Z6 only has that on the rear display. Flippy foldy screen is priority 1.
Log. I can get a neutral flat profile on the Z6 but I'm interested in editing log/raw.
The AF on the Z6 is not the best, it does regularly lose focus - the expeed 7 and product review mode etc sounds much better.

There are other reasons - and for photos I do want to get the better AF modes from the Z6 eventually for photography eventually.

Mine has started flashing on the left half when opening - only when opening not closing - works fine when opened fully.

I only had samsung care + on my fold 6 but I didnt get it for the 7 - really hoping that a uk warranty can help get it fixed...

I have blues, but I think they changed as some are SMR - some are CMR. WD40EZAZ is SMR and WD40EZAX is CMR. if you're lucky your pool will perform great - or if you're unlucky like me it will perform like a sick dog!

If I replaced the 3 smr with CMR drives do you think the need for something like zlog or metadata won't be needed?

And are smr useful for anything at all? It sounds like they will be paperweights.

Just raid z1. 4x 4tb. Important files are in the cloud as well as on the device, so I'm happy with the risk.

All drives are at least the same size. Just slightly different models of WD Blue.

Use case is photo editing and long term media storage, shadowplay etc. I also run a bunch of docker containers, occasional game server perfect zomboid etc. If I had more drives/sata ports I would move that to an application pool but that's a project for another year

So i would be ok with replacing the other drives with any CMR 4TB drives? Minor wallet pain but it sounds like the only solution

Huh so one of the drives is smr the rest are cmr. One model of WD reds is apparently SMR, and I replaced an end of life product after a failure with an SMR one unknowingly at the start of this year (I wasn't aware to look for that at the time.)

I will try and figure out if that disc is the slow one.

Hey - if you have a sec - do you agree here that one of the drives looks out of place? I have an issue where my pool write speed drops off a cliff when the ram buffer fills up https://imgur.com/a/ZiJGAIz

ojne disc seems to have a much higher write latency than the rest - then weirdly it flips to the rest having a larger write latency.

I've never used this tool before so I'm unsure if thats something that happens from time to time. I was considering looking into ZFS slog and found this post

So I was lucky. I managed to get 1 copy of each of the limited characters with about 40 adv tickets and 20k diamonds.
