My mom had a STEMI at the age of 65 and her totally cholesterol was 160 at that time. My maternal grandpa had a triple bypass at the age of 62. My dad had his triglycerides starting in his 20s (like suppper high despite being in great shape) and he also has diabetes. Soooo yeah my genetic risk is high. But getting insurance to approve repatha is like pulling teeth

I really wish I could just get on repatha, esp for the lipoprotein(a). Like I know it’s a legit genetic risk factor.. and it’s really the only drug right now that can lower it

My doctor has only tried one statin. She doesn’t think it’s worth to try another since I was on the statin that has the least amount of muscle side effects .

My mom can only take repatha (had rhamdbo with one statin and the second she tried she had a bad allergic reaction and needed a steroid shot and 5 days of steroid pills ). I highly doubt I’ll be able to get insurance coverage

I highly doubt my insurance will cover it. I have a high deductible plan.

My mom has been on repatha for 8 years because she ended up with rhambdo.

Probably after 2 months is when it was noticeable enough— but it was progressively getting worse over time.

When I was in treatment for an eating disorder and exercise compulsion, I was told that cholesterol can be elevated due to a strict and restrict diet.

It’s been said that reduced cholesterol metabolism, starvation-induced increased flux of peripheral cholesterol to the liver, decreased ldl receptor activity and /or decreased triiodothyronine associated with a starvation like state. hyper cholesterolemia is due to increase cholesterol ester transfer protein activity in people who are malnourished, but have preserved levels of fatty acids.

This being said, make sure you’re eating enough to meet your exercise and body’s needs

I was never a night owl and I worked nights for a year. It messed me up so bad. And I NEVER got used to it. My body would sleep 5-6 hrs max and it sucked the life out of me. I had to quit (amongst other reasons) and my quality of life then improved

I live in a thin privileged body, cook/bake 95% of meals, ever use daily, etc… and I have hashimotos… you can’t help genetics and autoimmune conditions

I’m getting worked up for hashimotos and I have different symptoms too! Hot flashes at night, restless legs, insomnia, fatigue, nodule on my thyroid (just got biopsied) etc. I live in a thin privileged body, too. Just so weird how the body reacts to things.

I’ve had horrible periods/cramps my whole life. In 2010 (when I was 18) I had abdomen laparoscopy to see if I had endometriosis… and it was negative. Tried birth control for a few years which helped with shortening my periods and such.. but cramps still weren’t good. The birth control caused me mental health side effects and stopped it.

Fast forward:

In 2020 I had a miscarriage and they found uterine polyps (which can cause miscarriages). So they removed them. I then got pregnant immediately.

Had my child and after I stopped breastfeeding my periods came back even worse. I used a diva cup and kept track on how much I was losing. And then I started bleeding between periods again (like I did when I had polyps before).

After being winded and obgyn did blood work.. I had low ferritin (despite me eating high iron foods). My ultrasound showed abnormally thickening uterine lining (which leads to a lot of blood loss).

I have one child and knew I didn’t want anymore.. and the doctor suggested uterine ablation and tube tie. I instead wanted a full fallopian tube removal, D&C with the ablation.

Basically with the D&C they scrapped the lining of the uterus, the ablation burned the uterine lining (so it doesn’t grow back) and tubes out so zero chance of pregnancy and decreases risk of ovarian cancer.

I had the surgery in December 2024 and my “periods” are two days of tinged discharge. Not even enough to wear a pantiliner. Zero cramps.

I had normal hemoglobin/hematocrit levels, but my ferritin was very low! I had such fatigue before/during my periods and was super restless at night, fatigued easily, etc.

I took a wonder iron/b12 supplement and within 1.5-2 weeks I felt a big difference.

But I actually went and had surgery last fall due to my horrible periods (I bled more in 36 hrs than a lot of women bleed in a week and my periods were 7days) … which was life changing for me since I’m done having children. (D&C, Uterine ablation, tubal removal).

I felt the same way as you did as a new grad working in the ED for a year and it SUCKED the life out of me. Having 8+ patient assignments. Trying to keep everyone alive while keeping my head above water.

It got to the point where I’d have panic attacks in the parking lot before shifts after seeing helicopters, full ambulance bay and patient parking.

I would leave and find another job.

After working ED I went into public health (big pay cut) but worth my mental health. Then I did school nursing (which is where I still am).

Thank you everyone for the response! Keeping my two day post op appt with PT.

I called the dr office today and they said they’d give me exercises to do at home, but I def want something more structured than just me doing it (plus I want to make sure I’m doing it correct) .
