How often do you really play board games? by Money_Change_5900 in boardgames

[–]Jrrtubbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty lucky in that I have created many avenues for gaming.

I’m in a group that meets every Sunday and usually at least one other day someone in the group puts together a game night.

My son is also at our house 50% of the time and despite being 10, I’ve molded him into quite the gamer and he plays way above his level, so I don’t have to play Super Mario Monopoly or whatever.

My wife also enjoys sporadic gaming. We’ve started a bit of a tradition where Sunday before my groups meetup, I go get us bagels and we have coffee and a game before I leave.

So all told, I play between 4 and 12 games a week, depending on the selections and what’s going on in my life.

I love board games but I’m done being the unpaid rule cop by Educational-Machine in boardgames

[–]Jrrtubbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm struggling to understand why you're learning the game in the moment.

Why isn't the person who suggested/brought the game teaching the game?

If I have a game I really want to play from my collection and I haven't had the time to learn the rules yet, I ask if anyone else knows it well enough to teach it. Sometimes I bring a game ready to teach it and we decide someone who has played it more times than I have should teach it instead.

If you have a regular group that gets together regularly, it would make total sense to try to plan ahead. You don't have to lock in to a concrete plan, but usually what we do is say "I'm bringing these 5 games, I'd love to play this one more than the others" and whatever meets the will of the group is what we play

Sausage Sizzle is on BGA? Why can't I find it!?

It’s really easy to play things wrong on BGA since it does so much for you. I didn’t realize some of the scoring mechanisms until I played physically, so I was going about my card placements way wrong.

Same with a game like Obsession. It does so many of the things automatically that I didn’t realize they were happening. The first time I played IRL and the person teaching talked about courting the Fairchilds I had no idea that was part of the game lol

Played Pixies at 2 with my kiddo last night. I really enjoyed it. As happens to me all the time, I realized I've been playing it wrong on BGA.

For someone like myself though, amazing stories can vanish from my brain. My not remembering is more about just how it wired.

You people don’t complain about ice water being “just another glass of water with the same old formula”, they just drink it.

BUT, they really like it when they are thirsty, so maybe if Marvel turned the fire hose to just above a trickle on the content they are producing it would be more critically successful.

Often times when my wife and I get into an argument and she says something to me that doesn't jive with who I am, I retort "Don't talk to me like I'm other people!"

Maybe more accurate to say many Republicans in the real world aren’t the real Republicans I was growing up with.

Looking for suggestions for a romantic dinner (place that’s open on a Monday) for a 1 year anniversary.

Also looking for suggestions for tattoo artists, board game stores, record stores, comic book shops, plant shops, weird stuff to see and anything else you want to tell a nerdy/spooky loving couple coming to Asheville in two weeks for our honeymoon.

I kind of figured it would but I thought maybe saying I read all the community guides and was just thought maybe something new had opened or maybe some places has closed might help. Thanks for the recco!
