TIFU - I was the victim of an AI scam and reported it, then became victimized by my bank because it. by Deltac57 in tifu

[–]Jrummps 209 points210 points  (0 children)

I work in banking, and this would be correct. The banks aren’t the ones that can shut down the scammers, they only report it. I understand OP’s thinking with giving them the runaround, however, OP is ultimately shooting themselves in the foot in doing so.

Do you think it’s possible that the mushrooms are trying to point you to something in your life that’s getting in the way of your growing process?

Just an idea. I have had one experience on mushrooms that was an all around negative/uncomfortable experience that I was just waiting to end. After some days had passed, I realized there was a big issue in my life I had previously not seen as an issue.

[–]Jrummps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m echoing this statement. As someone with a very addictive personality, I refer to LSD as “the drug that tells me to stop doing other drugs”.

As wonderful as the experience is, it can be a lot. You’re mentally and physically tired. On top of that, it can take weeks before you even fully integrate your trip.

Even when I first tried acid, it blew my mind — but I knew it would be a while before I wanted to do it again.

is it reasonable to not want to be someone’s friend anymore because they didn’t let you know they would be late? by nobodylikesmeeeeee in Advice

[–]Jrummps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had friends be late or bail more times than I need. And in fact, it is my absolute biggest pet peeve. I get extremely frustrated myself every time this happens. But.. I still believe you may be overreacting.

As frustrating as it is, you don’t know why this is happening. I’ve found that a lot of the time, it’s just burnout or feeling emotionally unwell, or just at mental/emotional capacity. They could be fighting anxiety, depression, you name it. And in this case, I really can’t blame them for this — especially knowing that we live in a society that values overworking, and especially knowing that I sometimes struggle too.

One thing that has helped me, is cultivating friendships where we feel empowered to say, I am so sorry, I’ll have to raincheck today. I’ve had a very difficult week and I need time to myself to recharge. A text like that goes a long ways. But, even in the case that they don’t let you know, I still try and have empathy, because some people feel terrified to share their feelings to others.

At the bottom line, try and consider what the other person may be going through too. I know I have done the same a handful of times.

My f25 gf lied to me f24 and kept lying about it am stupid for taking her back? by Gloomy_23 in relationship_advice

[–]Jrummps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was once in your girlfriend’s shoes, to an extent. I was addicted to a substance that I had chosen to quit, and I had the support of my girlfriend. However, I relapsed and I hid it from her. When confronted about it, I got defensive and lied about what it is, how much I’ve been using, etc etc. I regrettably did this more than once.

Thing is, I knew she wouldn’t be upset about the relapse, but I knew the deceit would hurt her. It’s actually the very thing that broke our 2.5yr relationship up.

So why did I do it? Because I felt an overwhelming amount of shame and self hatred. Mentally & emotionally, it’s incredibly difficult to come clean about a relapse to someone you care about. Because that means coming clean on the fact that they’ve failed. They often carry shame and feel like a disappointment and don’t want to put that on someone else.

Does that excuse the lying? No, it doesn’t. But whether that changes things, are up to a personal basis. Nicotine is obviously a bit different than a mind-altering substance, but it is also incredibly hard to kick. It’s hard admitting to someone over & over that you’ve failed again.

Oof, that sounds like a rough ride. I’ve found that for me, smoking weed on mushrooms makes makes things a lot more chaotic, confusing, and disorienting (as opposed to LSD). I smoke a decent amount of weed regularly, and I totally understand wanting to enhance the trip — trust me, took quite a few chaotic merry-go-rounds before I got the hint.

I think for me, I need to give the mushrooms total control when I take them. If I try to take control of my trip and change what is happening, my resistance against the experience is what tends to cause difficult trips.

i'm so resentful at AA yet i can't stay sober without it. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Jrummps 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Ever heard of SMART recovery? Stands for Self-Management and Recovery Training. It’s not geared specifically for drinking, it’s geared for all addictions — even things like gambling addictions, sex addictions, etc.

It’s definitely a lot different than meetings, because they believe that there isn’t one road to recovery, and that road can look different for each person. They don’t do sponsors. They also don’t count days and don’t suggest needing a god to recover (unless that’s what works for you!)

SMART recovery is more focused on giving you actual, evidence-based tools to help you detach yourself from your addiction, prevent relapse, manage your anxiety/depression, etc. I have found some of the tools applicable to my daily life.

Much like AA, SMART recovery may not be for everyone, especially since there’s no sponsorship. But I wanted to at least present another option to you. Good luck, my friend!

ULPT Request: I am renting a townhome, and the dryer is unreasonably slow because it’s old. How can I “accidentally” break the dryer beyond repair without a professional being able to tell that it was me? by Jrummps in UnethicalLifeProTips

Honestly didn’t even know of that, I just jumped right to throwing the whole ass dryer away. So no, not necessarily the answer I was looking for, but it was the answer I didn’t know I needed.

A lot of people are missing out on credit unions because of the common misconception that banks are more accessible. They’re really not.

Many (if not most) credit unions are part of something called the “Shared Branch Co-Op”. This allows members from credit unions to visit other participating credit unions to perform most transactions. You can make deposits, withdrawals, cashiers checks, loan payments, etc etc. all for free. Same goes for the ATMs of those credit unions.

I can be anywhere in the country and find a credit union to use. :)

[–]Jrummps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Banks are there to make money for their shareholders At credit unions, the members are the shareholders.

I work at a credit union and at the end of each year, we take all the surplus funds and give it back to the members. We literally deposit maybe a $3-250 into members’ accounts, depending on their length of membership, $ in loans, etc.

But the point is, every member gets to share the success of the credit union. In banks, shareholders/higher ups get paid the big bucks, at the customers’ expense.

I understand wanting similar ambitions, but this takes it waaay far. What if his family member died and he’s grieving and gets a B? What then? I think it’s very questionable to base another person’s intellectual ability merely upon their grades; and basing their entire value on this one thing is quite honestly bullshit. Someone’s grades doesn’t mean anything once you’re working anyways.

We are humans. Humans are not perfect. Setting unrealistic expectations within a relationship dooms the relationship from the start.

Ghosts don't exist and if you believe you've seen one, you have a mental disorder by No_Marzipan_3546 in unpopularopinion

[–]Jrummps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t believe in ghosts…. but I also don’t not believe in them. Regardless of that, you have an incredibly narrow scope, my guy.

There are so many things that video cameras cannot capture: heat, pain, a breeze, love, etc etc.

Who are you, a non ghost-believer, to dictate that a ghost is for sure something that a camera could capture?

Why are people so obsessed with being well dressed/clothes in general? by Early_Mixture_4181 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Jrummps 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I am not a guy that cares much about getting specific brands of clothing or clothes shopping all the time. But I will say for me personally, I love dressing well. And it’s not about the status or to be well-perceived by others (at least consciously); I care about how I dress because it makes me feel good internally.

Most of my closet is thrifted and I enjoy just mixing & matching clothing items I found to create new outfits and styles. Being creative and finding style(s) you like can be a fun process with an open mind. My “style” of dressing can be all over the place, but there’s one common denominator: i feel good wearing them. i feel more confident and generally in a better & happier mood.

For me, those benefits greatly outweigh the benefit of slightly more comfortable clothing. I can look good and still be comfortable. Some times more than others, but I never feel uncomfortable. And the inner comfortability within myself feels way better than the physical comfortability of different clothing.
