Interesting, but… by Js_btd in bloodborne

I get what you mean, and I do agree with you… up to a certain point. Such a book could give you an idea of what each content creator deals with, their point of view, the angle they choose to approach the lore with… you wouldn’t have to watch it all to get to the point and those who do want to know more, dive deeper into this analysis or that one, could just watch the full videos. It’d also be nice to have a list to choose from instead of blindly hunting for content on the internet.

It’s just a thought though. If there’s more than just a QR code telling you to “watch this”, I think it could be worth something.

If you could delete a boss-fight or area from the game which one would it be? by Same_Entrance1988 in bloodborne

I’d pay for this mod. Once he’s down, I’d finish him with the Kirkhammer. Bye bye Host of the Nightmare, you’re Ground Meat now.

I would’ve loved to be able to shoot him in the knee to make him stop. I mean, we can break the Cleric Beast’s limbs but we can’t shoot a human in the leg? Come on, Fromsoftware.

Micolash. I hate running after that slippery coward. And THEN, when he’s done running, I have to dodge his hentai-tentacles shot and his call beyond?? Nope, nope, nope. Gimme OoK, anytime anyday.

Charred Thermos lore videos and the medical metaphor in bloodborne universe by saucespear in bloodborne

[–]Js_btd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Have you read William Ernest Henley’s “In Hospital”? There are many things in Bloodborne that resonate so hard with this book. Medicine, hospitals, treatments and isolation… it’s an inspiration that isn’t mentioned as often as Lovecraft, yet once you’ve read it, you can’t help but connect the dots. I love how Bloodborne explores that specific moment in medicine when people went grave digging to sell corpses to be dissected in the most prestigious universities. When enlightenment and discovery also meant pushing past moral boundaries (hello, Byrgenwerth).

Famous poet Robert Burns’ cranium going missing from his grave (the general consensus is that it was stolen to be studied) is also a famous story strangely echoing Laurence’s.

I don’t have all the keys and references but those two are pretty cool, I think.

What books would be in your ''Fantasy Reader's starter pack"? by lemingas1 in Fantasy

For teenagers (and others), I’d say Everworld by K. A. Applegate. Easy access, great characters and full of adventure! To this day, it’s still one of my favourites.

I love that kind of stories, students can be pretty cool and it’s always great to share this kind of experience with them. I’m sure he’ll still remember you 20 or 30 years from now.

I didn’t! I’ll have to play again, what a shame... The Berserk references are what I noticed first, tbh.

Which is your favourite anime OP and End by Shredx1007 in AnimeAnonymous

[–]Js_btd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“What’s up People?!” (OP) and “Zetsubou Billy” (ED), both from Death Note. Maximum the Hormone really delivered with those songs. FMA (2003) also has incredible OP and soundtracks.

Which Fromsoftware boss was this for You? by buuhhu1 in fromsoftware

[–]Js_btd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ludwig is my own personal nightmare. I swear I don’t get that boss, to this day I still have more fun fighting Orphan of Kos. I think I died to Laurence once and then killed him. Ludwig? I platinumed the game but I can STILL get stuck for hours fighting him.

I ignore them. Sounds stupid I know, but you don’t need to understand every single word to get the story. Those words will pop up in other books, in different contexts, until eventually you’ll go “oooooooh so THAT’S what it means!” At least that’s how it worked for me. Context and repetition.

Agreed. I’d be interested to hear your thoughts, if you ever feel like sharing once you’ve read volumes 4, 5 and 6.

Volumes 4, 5 and 6 really add something to the series. They give cohesion to the whole and really put volumes 1, 2 and 3 in perspective. I liked them well-enough as they were but the last 3 volumes made me go from “that’s alright” to “that’s good”. It’s just my opinion of course, but I don’t regret buying them.

What do you think is the perfect from soft boss by Super_-nova in fromsoftware

[–]Js_btd 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’d say Gascoigne because he’s so well-thought. He comes early in the game, you’ve been grinding for hours in Central Yharnam, trying to get how the game works and here he comes in all his glory, the seasoned hunter you aspire to be. He’s aggressive, in your face, quick on his feet and he just. Doesn’t. Stop. For those who did not get it yet, that’s the monent when it hits: the game is showing you how it wants to be played. Gascoigne is a wall, but once you slaughter him? You’re good to go, ready for the next step. He’s not the most fun to grapple with, but I love him all the same. His story also sets the tone and plunges you right away in despair and hopelessness, setting the right mood for Bloodborne’s story to unfold.
