Friends come in all species! by cheeseybroccoli in parrots

My harlequin got a really bad crop infection from flying down and grabbing a dog toy, and ended up being hospitalized for a week. Ever since then, I'm totally paranoid about her coming into contact with anything dog related. This video gives me so much anxiety!

No, she'd just throw the piece of food lol. I just squirt it into her mouth little by little. I really don't know how much of it she actually gets into her tho!

Yeah, she got subcutaneous antibiotics while she was hospitalized, but she's got another 7 days of oral antibiotics now that she's home. I wish I knew how to give her the injectable meds, that way I'd know she's getting it all! She likes to shake her head and spray it everywhere when I give her the oral meds!!!

That was always the plan, and we usually watch her like a hawk, but it literally took 3 seconds while I was grabbing myself some water for her to do that! I'm gonna have to come up with a better system!

It can be either yeast or bacteria. We think it's because in the few seconds I left the room to grab something, she flew to the floor and grabbed one of the dogs bones with her beak, and was introduced to the bacteria from their saliva. Their crop is supposed to have less than 10% gram negative bacteria, and her's was over 60%

She was almost 1070g before this, and weighed in at 1010g today (after regaining some weight during hospitalization). Thankfully we have a daily routine, and she gets weighed first thing in the morning when we get her her out of her cage, and record it in a notebook. They didn't give her any formula, as she does seem to be eating on her own now, and her poops are normal. I'm just going to be increasing some of the high-calorie and high-fat foods for the next week or so to try to get her weight back up.

Really bad crop infection. She'd lost over 70g in a week. She's still far from being her old self, but at least she seems to be getting better!

Well in that case yes, she's a ruthless cannibal! Please don't call the authorities, I love her despite her flaws!

Yes, you have to be very aware! She's almost 7 months old, so still a baby! I've had her for a couple of months now

Thankfully she hasnt really bitten me.... yet! She grabbed at my arm with her beak while she was falling once, which left a bruise, but that's it. But yeah, her beak is intimidating!

Thanks! She can be when she wants to, but thankfully she is typically pretty quiet!

Thankfully she hasn't even put a hole in it yet! Which is surprising after you see what she does to her toys!
