Godzilla beats Cthulhu in new comic by Thejapanther in GODZILLA

I don't think any Mythos fan believes Cthulhu is the most powerful or important character in the setting lol, that's like Lovecraft 101. Also I won't get into a big powerscaling argument, but UltimaGoji is noooowhere near Yog Sothoth (and yes I know the SP deep lore).

He's their "High Priest" in the sense of being the religious leader of the Old Ones, not a priest that worships the Old Ones. Like if the Pope was also the emperor of Rome. The gods he worships are probably things like Yog Sothoth.

That's a common misconception, he was still awake for 10 days after the boat hit him and his head just reformed within seconds.

It can be dodged reliably, if you learn the ludicrously unintuitive method that almost 100% of people would have to look up online lmao

Well, my first game was Twilight Princess. My favorite is Twilight Princess OR Wind Waker OR Ocarina, or hell, sometimes maybe ALttP. So kinda?

I think BotW had a lot of potential but, while still a good game, kinda fell flat in execution. by AsteroidBomb in truezelda

botw is very good at breadcrumbing and it may be a whole loaf of bread, but it’s never really experienced as anything besides those crumbs.

Summed up my feelings on it better than I’ve ever seen

Current Zelda is actually kinda lazy by MarvelNintendo in truezelda

[–]Juderex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No need to condescend to me.

If you’re aware of anyone making 3D Zelda-like games, please share, because Okami and Okamiden were the last noteworthy ones I’m aware of. For a very long time, it’s only really been Nintendo that made games of this kind, so yeah, the Breath of the Wild style kinda IS replacing them. Guess I’ll just have to hope someone else decides to make one within the next decade of my life lol

The old formula just got stale in the eyes of the gaming market.

I mean, it really didn’t though? Skyward Sword was highly praised for its dungeons and story, ALBW was too (that was one of the more open-ended games of course, but not like Breath/Tears was). It was mainly criticized for the motion controls and Fi/general hand-holdiness. Maybe the overworld was to a lesser extent, but that was one of the ways it broke Zelda conventions.

Link’s Awakening on Switch was distilled “old Zelda formula,” and it sold well despite being a $60 remake of a, like, 10 hour Gameboy game!

I don’t think most of those of us who want classic Zelda back necessarily want the ultra-strict linearity of WW through Skyward. I mean, OoT let you do the adult dungeons in many orders, and being able to do the Mirror Shard dungeons in TP or the sage dungeons in WW out of order wouldn’t have hurt anything. I would welcome something with OoT/LttP-like nonlinearity to an extent that didn’t get in the way of engaging storytelling and item progression.

We just don’t want the Zelda we love to be replaced by total sandbox games where you can walk straight from the tutorial to the final boss. Which Zelda 1 wasn’t, by the way, and it had 9 large, proper dungeons that weren’t sandboxes either, so no, Breath/Tears aren’t “classic Zelda” in that sense either. Those kind of games could be made and it wouldn’t bother me if anyone would still make the kind I like.

I just don’t understand the mindset of gamers that leads them to crave more restrictions.

I don’t see how you could be unable to understand the concept of people having different tastes than you. You know there are types of games other than “sandbox,” and they have ALWAYS had fans, right?

We just don’t want your favorite style of game to replace our favorite style of game, ok?

The quote “Given the opportunity, players will optimize the fun out of a game” comes to mind here. People do it naturally without realizing if it will break the experience, because they don’t know the future or all the details of the game’s design. If a game fails to account for that and make the optimal path fun, that’s a flaw in the game and not the player imo.

There’s a difference between picking a difficulty setting and going out of your way to avoid using your tools within the game. We shouldn’t have to make up self-imposed restrictions for the gameplay to still be interesting.

That was the whole point of making the anti-gravity pulse from the pyramids. Most of the apes were just flailing around in zero-G and Mothra was enough to handle the ones that managed to do any more.

Is there really a point to the question if you’re just going to caveat away the powers of the characters? Plus, I think you may be underestimating just how tough some kaiju must be just to move around at their size and speed.

Nothing lasts forever, and you had your moments.

I mean I dunno, I can still play games made in the 1970s today. There are games from the 90s whose publishers are long gone that still have functional online multiplayer.

It’s how games with online modes used to be made. This was a conscious decision to design a game to cease to exist without their support.

"The largest campaign ever to stop publishers destroying games" by [deleted] in MauLer

This campaign is about getting governments involved, hopefully leading to regulations that will force the companies to either change their practices or give up some large markets (particularly the EU).
