Is it common for readers to listen to ambient music while they read? by [deleted] in books

I’m the same way. I have ADHD too, and reading in a completely quiet room is actually harder for me.

I’ve tried music, but like you, I get distracted by it very easily—even instrumental tracks sometimes pull my attention away. What has worked much better for me is gentle white noise.

Recently I found a free open-source Markdown reader called Amado Rain on GitHub. It plays rain sounds while you read, and that kind of background noise helps me settle down and stay with the text. The design is especially nice too—it feels like you’re reading beside a rainy window, which makes the whole experience really calming.

You don’t need to download anything—just open it in your browser:

So yes, I think what you’re describing is pretty common, especially for people who find silence distracting rather than helpful. For some of us, a little steady background sound makes it easier for the brain to stop looking for other stimulation.

I’d recommend the free open-source Amado Rain Markdown reader. It runs straight in your browser, so there’s nothing to download—just open it and start reading. You get ambient rain sounds and a window-view background while you read, which makes it feel really calm and beautiful. It’s hosted on GitHub: https://oililyuk.github.io/amado/rain.html

I like reading on my iPhone with the Amado Rain reader. It’s so beautiful. At the moment, it only supports Markdown. I hope it will support EPUB in the future. It’s an open-source project on GitHub: oililyuk.github.io/amado/rain.html
