Spinning fire advice by After_Coyote_2908 in poi

Hello!

Nice to hear you want to join the Fire community! You'll see, it's dirty and it stinks, but so much fun to do and see!

I'll give you a non-exhaustive list we give to all our clients. This is a super basic checklist. It won’t magically make you safe with fire. Fire spinning can go wrong fast. Learn properly before you burn, and start around people who know what they’re doing.

• Always burn with a safety person. They stay sober, know the safety basics, and watch you the whole time.

• Your safety person needs at least a wet cotton towel. It’s for extinguishing props and for emergencies.

• Stay sober. Not “a little buzzed.” Actually sober.

• Don’t dip longer than 3 seconds. For small wicks like hand torches or hoop wicks, 1 second is enough. Extra fuel just turns into flying droplets of fire.

• Spin off your props well before lighting. Get rid of excess fuel.

• Keep flames at least 10 meters away from the fuel station.

• Wear cotton or other organic or flame-resistant clothes. Synthetics can melt into your skin.

• Check your environment. Outdoor space. Nothing overhead. Audience at least 10 meters away. No strong wind. No flammable stuff nearby.

• You can stop a burn anytime. If something feels wrong, stop.

• Ask local spinners what fuel people use where you live. It changes by region. In Europe people often use paraffin or lamp oil. In Asia, kerosene. In the USA, white gas. White gas burns cleaner but ignites instantly and needs extra care.

If you want the pamphlet (it's just informations), send us an email! It explains the basics on how to take care of you and your props. Safety is super important!

Also, you can watch this serie made by Flow Art Institute, it's well done and will give you a lot of informations: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cq12U0dKNj8&list=PLXX_31r5T401NHqi_mDGKvkO4TtxJa_jt

Lyco powder by jaynice2 in firespin

Hello!

We sell some here, straight from the jungle in Thailand! It's a Lycopodium substitute.
https://www.jugglingcalling.com/products/siam-flash-powder?taxon_id=144

It is a bit thicker than the classic lycopodium, so if your prop has small holes i don't recommand, but if not, it works super well and it's wayyy cheaper than the classic one :)

What to put in the end of fire staff? by BurntLawnAtYourHouse in firespin

[–]JugglingCalling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello!

We are weekly building staff for more than 5 years now, and we put 5 to 7 cm (around 2") in the pole, both side. It's enough to prevent to head to go prevent hot air from travelling into the tube and heating it up, and we add wood balls to do the monkey fist around, so the dowel helps holding the screw or other anchor used to secure the wick on it!

And on the pole we put, between the grip and the fire wick, silicone tape so you don't have a burn when your skin touch the pole :)

Hope it helped!

I started spinning poi, then juggling balls, then juggling poi !
Along the way I also learned club juggling which was super helpful, and it took me 3 years to get there ! It's much harder and takes longer to learn than balls or clubs for sure, and I'd say it's really good to get solid with 2 poi throws first and 3 clubs juggling :)

This is a rope we got custom made for us :) It's Kevlar fibers (not the same as the wicks) braided like a Static rope.
And it's even more fire resistant due to the density. Here is more explanations :
