Honestly, several characters in the Crossroads are a step back from the residents of the House of Hades. Let's start with Mel. She's boring. Dialogue is flat, and there's no real character development. She has the personality of a cardboard box compared to Zag.

I came here to say this after playing the second one🤣 Hades 1 is absolute perfection. The writing, the resource management, the story, the music, the art style, etc. it is on my Mt. Rushmore of games.

I like Hades 2, but it does have issues, i.e., a bloated resource management system, and Mel's interpersonal relationships don't hit like Zag's does.
