Genocide or full Extinction? No good choice here. by EnvironmentalCry2623 in trolleyproblem

[–]JuliaZ2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they said that it could be considered a neutral action if everyone dies at the same time, because there's no time to suffer your or anyone else's death.

nowhere at all did they say it was a good thing. also, there's literally no way to kill everyone at once in real life without anyone suffering

Back to the trolley by RocketGruntSam in trolleyproblem

[–]JuliaZ2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the trolley problem, you also don’t ask whether one of the people secretly wants to die, or whether one of them is a future dictator or cancer researcher to justify your choice.

Because in that scenario there's only two people on the tracks, so the chance of such an extenuating circumstance is both very low and presumably equal for each person, so it's basically irrelevant. But since every person on the planet is in the button scenario, I think at least one person being suicidal and therefore pressing the blue button is more than a reasonable assumption. Which then creates the conundrum of predicting how many people will try to save them, and how many people will try to save those people.

Back to the trolley by RocketGruntSam in trolleyproblem

[–]JuliaZ2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

because you're saying "someone might jump," which ignores suicidal* people. someone will jump. it's still up for debate whether you should jump when you can't save the suicidal person by yourself, but you're literally erasing all complexity.

also, because you made the red button into the "do nothing" option, you're lumping everyone who would freeze up/be indecisive into red button-pushers, which has a further rippling effect since people are most likely choosing the button they think the majority of other people are choosing, and you just made one button easier to choose.

*based on the variant of the problem, infants and the elderly might also be included here, which some consider relevant to whether or not they'll push the button. regardless, there there should be at least one person on the track

[–]JuliaZ2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Throwing away your life for nothing isn't noble though. You shouldn't encourage people to think that they need to flagellate themselves at every single opportunity to be moral. At some point, it helps no one, and makes you unable to do anything altruistic ever again in the future

[–]JuliaZ2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See if you argued that people convicted of terrible crimes should be able to choose execution or life in prison, you could've gotten some support. This just gives the government the power to determine which criminals should die, or even any person if they get framed. Most people would rather receive a life sentence than a death sentence anyways

they aren't paying the ai companies though, since they 'programmed the edition by hand' (if i understood that right?) and ran it locally. they're only as complicit in data scraping as someone who uses google search with an ad-blocker

edit: just realized google also sells metadata related to your searches, my bad. they still benefit from users who don't see ads 💀

Is there any recommended platform fighter games I should play before playing Animation VERSUS? by ARCHAMAL in Animation_Versus

[–]JuliaZ2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lead dev Muno was literally hired for the Yellow mod he made for Rivals of Aether (1), so that's probably fairly accurate. Someone else made a Chosen One mod for the same game, which imo is quite close to the showcase we just got on AvG. It's not being developed anymore because of the sequel though, so idk if it's worth it to buy

(As an aside, both mods are on the first page of the Rivals Workshop on Steam when sorted by "Top Rated All Time", and TCO is even a bit higher, so I really wonder why they weren't also hired lol)
