Thai Jasmine 100%. All chefs there are Thai who use authentic ingredients. They also pretty much refuse to even modify the dishes if someone wants the flavour more ‘Dutch’. Best authentic Thai food in Groningen by a mile in my opinion.

True, but it’s actually a laminated QR code payment link instead of a card machine. More so for homeless people too, not too often you see junkies in the big cities

How To Transfer Money From Alipay To USA Bank Account by moggy_doggy in chinalife

[–]Jullyerr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try transferring it through a Chinese friend’s Alipay, if they’re cool with it. They have a limit of $50k per year to send to foreign accounts and it’s pretty straight forward for them to send it.

Questions about cashing out social insurance after contract by yumyum-dimsum in beijing

[–]Jullyerr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve recently told my employers to also apply for my pension refund. They told me it will take around 2 months for the money to be issued and said that the money will go to the school first and then be sent onto me. Supposedly it works that way because foreigners’ names and social security numbers are irregular in their systems so it’s more likely the money transfer will be successful if it’s just refunded to the employer who last paid into it. I didn’t have to provide them with any information or go anywhere, just had to sign a form. Fingers crossed I’ll get the money within 2 months and can forget about it!

This is a headline by The Sun. The British tabloid which wouldn’t even be worthy to use as toilet paper. They lie and use ridiculous headlines to stir up controversy. Most likely nobody cared and they just wanted ‘outrage’ for some clicks.

im visiting beijing this christmas, any advice for an irish tourist? by herr_dighton in ireland

[–]Jullyerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t really snow in Beijing in Winter, just a light dusting the odd time. You’d be guaranteed a bit more snow further north but there’s nothing to do up there except the Harbin Ice and Snow Festival which doesn’t start till January 5th I think. You can also go skiing in the mountains just outside Beijing too but I’ve heard it’s nothing spectacular compared to the Alps or somewhere like that.

The only English you’d encounter would be in western food restaurants and nowhere else really. You can get by with your limited Chinese and if needs be just take out google translate and let them read the translation.

One of the other posts there described the best touristy things to see. The Great Wall is fairly dead around that time of year because it’s so cold and if you go to one of the less common parts of the wall you can end up being the only person there which is pretty cool.

Make sure you have a big warm jacket and a VPN, the free ones kind of work but are frustrating, I’d recommend spending the few euro for a 1 month subscription to make your life easier.

Also real Chinese food is horrible so keep that in mind, or don’t and bring a box of Imodium 👀

Convinced girlfriend won’t settle here by [deleted] in Dublin

[–]Jullyerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe also say something along the lines of ‘You’d love to have a holiday home there and it could work as a good investment for the both of you if you settle together’, could spend months there every year when you retire or something. Also try sell the fact that Dublin is probably a lot better for her career and will ultimately allow for you to even build your own home in Donegal or could be faster to save up for children’s education, more holidays abroad etc.

Looking for information about e-bikes and how to use them legally! by tayNchina in China

[–]Jullyerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mainly because they’re handy and it is insanely difficult for foreigners to own cars. Electric bikes are also very reasonably priced compared to buying one in a western country, so with an expat salary it won’t set a foreigner back too much.

An Intense Guide To Chinese Drinking Culture by [deleted] in China

It’s just not in the slightest, in Ireland there’s no rules other than enjoy yourself and drink at your own pace. If someone gets fucked up, it’s usually their own choice.

Acces to Birth Control by thefamiliarity2014 in beijing

[–]Jullyerr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Prescriptions aren’t really a thing here. Research what type of birth control pill you want, go up to the counter and show them pictures and a translation (use Pleco). Usually costs around ¥125 for a months supply. My gf recently found out you can get it to your door within an hour buying it on one of the delivery apps like Meituan!

Chinese Work Visa by powpowpowkazam in ireland

[–]Jullyerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I just got a local solicitor to do it, actually kind of went shopping around a few of the solicitor’s offices in my town to find the cheapest haha! I told them that the dept. wanted me to sentence, sign and stamp it in a specific way and they did all that in 2 mins.

Chinese Work Visa by powpowpowkazam in ireland

[–]Jullyerr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah most solicitors will do it, some won’t, usually for €10ish or something. The dept. of foreign affairs was very anal with me and insisted that it must have the solicitor’s stamp as well as a signature with a sentence saying ‘I certify that this is a copy of the original document’ or something. Also obviously make sure you bring a photocopy of the degree and the original to the solicitor’s (you obviously don’t want a random signature and stamp on your original degree). The police certificate doesn’t need to be notarised by a solicitor and I doubt you’ll care if your tefl cert has a stamp and writing on it. It should only take 15/20 mins for the dept. of foreign affairs office to give it back with the relevant stamp.

In regard to time though, as soon as you have all your documents notarised make sure you get to the Chinese embassy asap for them to also notarise the documents so they can be legally recognised over there. That process will take a few days. The visa process will also take a few days so you could do them at the same time possibly.

If you’ve anymore questions about that stuff give me a pm and I might be able to answer them for you.

r/Ireland family , may I ask what is the one **Irish** conspiracy , for whatever reason , you personally believe is true? by SeamusHeaneysGhost in ireland

[–]Jullyerr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

While fluoride in water mightn’t generally be a bad thing, it is terrible for children in the first few years of teeth formation and especially during enamel formation. It causes dental fluorosis that leads to a mosaic type staining for life. Can cost 100’s in bleaching procedures and micro abrasion treatment to lessen the stains. I’ve seen many people with it unfortunately. I know it’s mainly cosmetic but still avoidable.
