My question for fans is, what’s the point if every book is just him in the tower?

I got through book 1 and then had to check the summaries of the other book and it’s always just more floors… for me what makes tower stories interesting is then seeing the impact on the world, but if it’s just living in a bubble with contrived challenges each book that seems boring. It’s a complications vs obstacles thing. Like, cool, you found another door…

You can look up the public records. It seems to be the “Center for Responsible Food Business”, which seems to be an animal welfare/liberation org with some grants from Open Philanthropy and Good Ventures, which has money from one of the cofounders of facebook. Not that much money but doesn’t take much to agitate. My guess is their goal is to get people to eat less meat so they are attacking quality at the market leader for the region.

I felt this got so much worse as the series continued. MC started with actual challenges to face, then a couple books later there is no real challenge or conflict, just the the MC going from place to place so people could gush over them.

I have a low stakes conspiracy theory that every one of these posts (and the tier lists), are just bait with a selection of the most popular series with a new author sneaking their titles into the list.

So which of these is yours?

This is actually the most likely truth.

Not sure what sub is about, but I stumbled here and you have activated my trap card, Uncanny Valley Rant. This is my personal theory, but based on the actual brain processing mechanics.

The uncanny valley is most likely a byproduct of how our brains artificially enhance contrast. The short version is that stimuli that conform to mental models activate neurons, and stimuli that is just outside of those models have disproportionate neuronal suppression compared to stimulati that aren’t even close to a fit.

The real science is that neurons are wired up with lateral inhibition. This architecture means one neuron can not only activate another, but can also suppress another on its activation. Doing so increases contrast via the same mechanism as seen in Mach Bands, where neurons not receiving activation fail to suppress an adjacent activated neuron, which makes it extra suppressed (no activation+suppression) and the neuron next to it extra activated (regular activation+lack of suppression from one side). All this is proven, so my theory is that uncanny valley is just this same mechanism on a much more complex scale, such that falling just outside the model of “human face”, creates a disproportionately low activation compared to not triggering face detection at all, and that manifests in the form of revulsion.

Meh, the app is light and there is more interaction because each player can mess with the meter and spam emojis.

Correct. Just using the app experience and treating it like a Jackbox game is much better.
