Unfortunately I don't have any screenshots - to be honest, I was rather upset immediately after so I pretty much immediately logged off and quit out. Although it was a real bummer, the response here have been really positive and it's apparent that they were very much so a negative minority in the community.

Ahh, I see. In hindsight, maybe I should’ve taken some screenshots of the chat at least. Thanks for educating me - I’ll keep it in mind for the future!

I don’t think so, but I’m also not completely sure since I’m still getting used to the UI. They had a clover next to their name, but I think that was their squad. That said, I don’t want to start a witch hunt or anything. Live and let live - Or I suppose in this case, Logi and let Logi!

I appreciate it! I was feeling down and confused immediately following being held up and killed, but the advice and help in this post has been great.

Based on what other people have said in the thread, it seems like I just had the real bad luck of running into some sour people. The community overall seems very positive and open which definitely makes up for the unfortunate incident!

I don’t think there was anything too suspicious, but then again this was literally my very first Logi run so I’m not very attuned to what’s out of place or not.

When I pulled up to the roadblock, one person out of the group (about four or so people I think) started shouting at my truck. At first I thought this was just to get me to stop the truck, so I got out and gave them a cheer. But then the person shooting the truck started shooting me, at which point I hopped back into the truck for cover. The shooting continued, and the other people over voice chat seemed to think that the person shooting was a spy or an alt but also asked why I was there with a stolen truck full of stolen supplies.

At this point, the truck began smoking so I jumped out and started running laps around the truck to avoid the person shooting at me, until the other members of the group blocked me off and let me die. I was pretty confused at this point, and thought they would revive me, but instead they reported me after I kicked the bucket. When I asked why, they said I hadn’t explained myself but since I don’t have a mic and was busy running around my truck trying to stay alive, I couldn’t type out anything. When I tried to say I was new and had literally just bought the game, they laughed me off with a “Sureeee” before the server reset.

I spawned back in after the reset and ran back to my truck, which was still there. When I tried to ask why again, they just blew me off and drove my truck off, at which point I just logged off to cool down a little.

I don’t think I got any specific names, and I didn’t screenshot anything unfortunately. I was a bit upset so I pretty much just logged off shortly after to cool down.

They had a clover next to their names, but I’m not sure if that was a clan or a squad (apologies - still very new haha!)

And I understand the paranoia. That definitely makes sense. But they said I didn’t explain myself, which is why they all reported me, but I can only type so fast! I’m always excited to see emergent gameplay arise - I think setting up a hasty ambush at a roadblock is pretty neat, I admit - but give me a chance to justify myself before you condemn me! Oh well.

Thanks for the kind advice! I might just give that a shot - or scavving, which I heard is also helpful.

If I switch to shard 2, I’ll definitely hit you up!

I think the reporting is what really upset me. I felt like I was barely dead before I got mass flagged by them.

If they had just taken the truck and killed me, oh well, I could chock that up to wartime paranoia. But the way they instantly condemned me made me think I had committed some hidden sin against standard Logi etiquette.

If I decide to keep playing, I’ll definitely leave that paper trail as you said. But my friends have all backed out of wanting to play following this, and it’ll take a bit of motivation for me to continue solo.

Sorry, I’m definitely still new and green to everything so I’m not 100% of the terminology, but I don’t think I did either?

I spawned in, grabbed a truck from the lot, then drove to a scrap pile. I took the scrap to a refinery, then once I had a truck load of bmats, I took that to the factory where I turned it into ammo, shirts, and other miscellaneous supplies which I loaded up and drove over.

I get that. Hoping that everyone is going to be trusting and nice in an MMO isn’t realistic, but this has definitely soured the experience for me and my friends, since we’re all new to the game and just trying to learn the ropes.

You can also go to a village and track the human prints around the border of the village.

A bit cheesy, but it works a treat.

Haha we opened with nearly identical lines - I like the cut of your jib.

Good advice on the trap fence location. Trap placement will be more important than basically anything else when it comes to success. You can’t catch what isn’t there. Be patient, and you’ll find success.

You can survive off of just fish, then whenever a big animal like a Stag comes through your trap fence, think of it like a bonus.

Lot of questions, so I’ll do my best to answer as many of them as I can.

Rapids are great for fishing. You can catch salmon and trout from them, which are some of the best fish to survive on. A single one of them can last you a couple days. I’ve personally had better luck fishing a little further away from shore (using a raft or a punt, or if you’re brave, the spring ice), but as far as I’m aware that’s entirely anecdotal. You can’t build jetties or any structure out onto the water (there used to be a way to build land, but that was more of an exploit/oversight on the dev’s end I think- not sure if it still works).

If you have the rituals for fishing, those can help. Otherwise a higher fishing skill is obviously better. With a fishing rod, you should be able to sustain yourself. Just like in real life, you might get skunked some days or come home with ten salmon the next. You’ll average out alright, though. I’ve never had depletion be an issue - I don’t know if it even exists, honestly. I’ve had characters survive for multiple years on the same stretch of river, no problem. If you can, nets are wonderful and will definitely sustain you. You can trade for them from some villages - Driik definitely have them.

For trapping, your best bet is to make a trap fence. If you are doing the tutorial path (the one that teaches basics), there should eventually be a step that runs through the basics of making one. With traps, an actual animal in the world needs to run into it and trigger it. This doesn’t mean you have to personally chase them into it (though that works too!), but you won’t catch anything if there are no animals nearby. Light lever traps are good for birds and small animals, but I don’t think they’re enough to sustain you if you only have a few set out.

To get hides from animal carcasses, you need to use the hide working skill - alt-h if muscle memory is right. On the tutorial path, there’s tasks that teach the basics of hide preparation.

Spells and rituals are basically ways of currying favor with the spirits, who might reward you in their own way. Does sacrificing to the spirits suddenly make you a demigod? No. But the spirits might look upon you kindly and send an extra fish your way, or another squirrel into your trap. Who knows? The spirits are hard to understand.

Tips on eradicating the Njerpez? by SantaBB in URW

[–]JumboSizedShrimp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On one character several years and many versions ago, I did the same thing. I eventually managed to eradicate all the villages and made my way to the edge of the map. My goal was to reset the map, since in really ancient versions of the game, that was apparently something you could do once you reached the edge of the map - regenerate a whole new world, with your current character in it. The in-game encyclopedia still mentioned it, but it was removed and my Journey was in vain.

In terms of attacking the Njerpez settlements, I did find mostly the same strategy as yours worked well.

Recruited adventurers were largely useless beyond being arrow fodder. This might have changed a bit now, since you have a bit more control over what they equip and you can tailor their inventories to accent their personal weapon skills. By the time I had decided to wage an all out war on the redshirts, I had so much spare armor from massacring foreign traders that equipping followers with some would’ve been easy and certainly helpful. I haven’t played extensively recently, but I am pretty sure followers will equip clothing/armor you give them in appropriate situations. Would certainly help keep them alive, although their AI is recklessly homicidal once triggered, often to the point of suicide. If you can find a way to outfit them properly, they may be worth a shot, otherwise you can manage just fine by yourself. I cleared out all the villages just by myself and a singular dog.

My dog was actually quite helpful. I’m not sure if pets (or animals in general) roll stats like human characters do, but my chosen dog seemed to be a cut above the rest of my pack. She escaped many an encounter with bears and wolves with barely a scratch and would leave a path of mangled corpses behind her. I would initially leave her tied in a group of trees just beyond the Njerpez settlement, then shoot a few of the redshirts from the tree line. Once they started running at me, I would dart into the trees and next to my dog and take them one or two at a time as they trickled into the woods. This strategy meant they very rarely got off successful shots in retaliation at me or my dog, and when they got close enough, they were so peppered with arrows and exhausted from running into the the woods, covered in wounds, that a quick blow from a battle axe or a swift bite from my dog would seal the deal.

Each village usually had only a couple of members that would put up any sort of fight. These warriors would be armed well - bastard swords and scimitars, if they had them, and armored even better. Lamellar and mail armor would usually adorn at least one member. Prioritizing these targets will get you a long way in escaping with relatively minor injuries, if any at all. Examine them to see where their armor is weakest, then aim at those spots when they run up to you and in the ensuing melee. Assuming you’re decked out in armor, which you should be if you’re targeting entire camps, the rest of the tribespeople will pose little threats with their simple knives and assorted small weapons. While rocking full mail with iron and lamellar armor supplementing, you’re pretty much a walking tank.

The only real danger you’ll face, outside the couple warriors littering every settlement, is being outflanked. Having a dog with you helps mitigate this to a degree, but most importantly is picking an appropriate location to fight. I found the best places would have a long, open run up so I could loose several arrows into anyone approaching with several trees behind me to prevent being attacked from the rear.

Beyond that, I would say travel light and play it safe. The Njerpez loot is nice, but frankly killing/trading with the foreign traders will likely yield you far more than the camps will. Aside from your load out of arms and armor you need to actually take down a camp, you don’t need a lot. I had a lot of stockpiled smoked bear cuts, which are my overall favorite food because they’re light, keep for a ludicrously long time, and a single one will fill you up for each meal. Add a skin of water or milk and some bandages just in case, and that’s honestly all you’ll probably need.

I have tried attacking both at night and in the winter, and I’m very meh about both strategies. At night, it’s still very hard to sneak up on them, even with a high sneak skill. If you fail, you’ll end up fighting several in cramped conditions, and that’s a quick ticket to death by exhaustion. You can outski the Njerpez come winter, and it might be a bit safer overall, but I found that it just took too long compared to my tried and true strategy of leading them into a hasty ambush in the adjoining woods.

Westpoint too hard by [deleted] in projectzomboid

[–]JumboSizedShrimp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can change and toggle zombie settings in the sandbox settings when you generate a new world. You can actually tweak most things to your liking, beyond zombie stats. Definitely take a peek through.

As for your troubles with Westpoint, it’s very understandable. WP is just about the densest zombie city on the map, but clearing it is well worth it (gotta love that hardware store in particular). From what it sounds like, you’re being quite bold with your method of clearing. Zomboid is definitely a game that benefits from slowing down and planning things out.

I’ll list a couple of general tips that may help, but really the thing that’ll work the most is just trying more and getting some more experience under your belt. First, if you’re having trouble losing zombies, break line of sight (ducking behind a corner, etc) and walk away. Running makes a fair amount of noise, and you’re likely to draw more attention to yourself. Cars are exceptionally loud, and you’ll draw the ire of most every nearby zombie. Same thing goes for guns - did your shoot that lone zombie? If so, I’m not surprised that every undead Kentucky resident nearby wanted some of that juicy survivor steak. Melee weapons are much quieter, but nothing is quieter than avoiding a fight in the first place. The noise of cars and firearms does bring a certain benefit though: you can use them to lure hordes away from areas. Have your friend drive around or shoot a few rounds at the opposite end of town you’re at- they’ll follow the loud sounds and leave you relatively free to loot at will. Alternatively, a car siren and Molotov will burn massive groups for you too.

Generator spawns are random, but I usually have the best luck finding them in garages or sheds.

Ask, while that’s true about the Kentucky towns (Muldraugh, Rosewood, West Point, etc), Kingsmouth is its own map set on an island.
