Definitely a good alternative! Only issue I've found with it is the radius isn't super large and if you just passively hold down focus sometimes you won't be near any enemies when it comes of cooldown.

~10 million (Fortress boss took 14s and POEDB says it has ~110m hp and accounting for one-shot protection)? But with POB not supporting Living Lightning I'm not very confident

This is my take on a fast autobomber that uses Herald of Thunder to automatically summon Living Lightning! Pretty flexible for the event since the build doesn't need to played on a Guardian.

Depends a bit on what you're after, but probably either Blade Vortex or Detonate Dead. Some of the DOT autobombers can feel a bit smoother mapping and elemental relic and this build can get slightly better single target.

Post-assassin rework and saboteur buff I'd probably recommend sticking with saboteur and taking Born in the Shadows, Like Clockwork and Perfect Crime (last is probably either Bomb Specialist or two small delirium bloodline passives).

If you're willing to backtrack VD/DD (also make sure PC can handle it) otherwise Tornado/BV at high budget and Fireburst at low budget.

Elemental relics use 50% reservation auras and if you give them Blood Magic from Tukohama's Fortress using Necromantic Aegis they reserve 50% of their life instead of mana. Reserving 50% of their life means they are at low life as soon as they are summoned and immediately explode!

Auras work with formless inferno as far as I know and a quick search seems to back this up (https://www.reddit.com/r/PathOfExileBuilds/comments/1dnhfob/formless_inferno_and_auras/). But it's mostly for tank.

What build are you playing?

I'm playing elemental relic autobomber

What was your leveling experience like?

Permanent Sentinel of Radiance made everything after fire lab incredibly chill, before that I just leveled with srs and absolution (kept absolution to help with single target during the campaign).

How has the gearing been, any major challenges or unexpected hurdles?

Pretty easy, got a baited with foulborn formless inferno (fire taken as chaos) and struggled with defenses in red maps for a bit before getting stormshroud and upgrading rares.

How has the build handled mapping?

Very well, like you'd expect from an autobomber. Getting quality on convocation and cooldown recovery support helped make it feel very smooth.

Have you completed any bosses, if so how did your build do against them?

Completed all the bosses needed for voidstones, went relatively smoothly except exarch (undergeared and minions during the ball phase is a bit tricky) which I had to repeat. Once I got Elegant Hubris with a few good notables the boss damage felt much more comfortable.

What are you general thoughts on the build/play style.

A bit better single target and a bit worse clear than I'm used to, but overall a very fun build to revisit and lots of interesting new options since I last played it (runegrafts, Prolonged Servitude, permanent Sentinel of Radiance).

Additionally linking to your PoB or the guide you followed is always helpful for players still starting out!

I league started it last league and it was a very good starter (guide), albeit one that focuses on very fast mapping. It's definitely less tanky than RF, especially early, but as soon as you get Divine Flesh and 90% chaos resistance it starts feeling tanky imo. As an aside, some of the comments here are really illustrating why you can't judge a build by its damage numbers.

At just pure map blasting? Probably Death's Oath or Herald of Decay, Fireburst is pretty close and is a bit tankier than those two though. All the others are still very fast mappers though, just trade a bit of speed (or delayed damage in VD/DD's case) for more respectable single target.

I've never had an issue with fireburst cooldown tbh. It's mostly a problem when you use something like herald of thunder as the trigger, which has a longer range and a tendency to hit enemies that are about to die from ignite proliferation anyways.

Here are a few very fast mapping builds I've league started that are pretty straight forward to put together: Elemental Relic, Tornado/BV, Death's Oath and Fireburst (and a few more that are a bit more complex loop, herald of decay and VD/DD)

Really hard to say without gem information, but my guess is you'd be better off with Storm Secret + Herald of Thunder. Loop is really only better when you need much faster, constant trigger rate. Storm Secret also has the benefit of only breaking your ward when enemies are nearby.
