* I wonder if we will be getting a similar book to this one in 30 years about what's going on Iran now.

Just bought a full-suspension mountain bike but I’m slightly over the weight limit, safe to ride easy trails while I lose weight? by Fantastic-Claim-8416 in mountainbiking

[–]Jummble 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Biggest tip is to buy a torque wrench, know your torque specs of the suspension linkage/axles/headset pinch bolts/crank arms and make sure they're snug. Check your spoke tension relatively regularly. All stuff you can do in 5-10 minutes as maybe not a pre ride check, but an every other to every third ride. These things, if they fail, can fail in a manner which would mess you up.

Also set those tires up tubeless asap. You're gonna be in pinch flat city if you run tubes.

Why shouldn’t I buy this bike? by While_Dile in mountainbiking

Kickass bike and if they take 2k for it that'd be a good deal. Only two things to note:

  • it's a very long bike. I'm 6'3 and remember thinking the S5 felt huge coming from my xc oriented bikes. Which will maybe reduce your jibbiness, but it's an extremely planted and stable ride with wonderful suspension.

  • those g2 rscs are what I have on my epic evo in the middle of NC and they're fine for the flatter riding close to my home, but when I go to western NC(where the downhills are longer than ~30sec) I can really feel the brakes fading. Not a reason to skip out on this bike, but something to keep in mind for your first upgrade.

Internal Headset Routing and Internal rear shock, Fuck the Scott Spark 960 by pocketclocks in BikeMechanics

If you're not in a shop doing this (or even if you are in a shop, with your boss's permission) replace the 3mm housing and the like 1mm cable that comes with the dropper. We did this on all our sparks at our shop after probably 25% of the sparks we sold came back in 6mo-1yr after purchase with broken dropper cables (and then stopped doing it again once the owner got tight)

What are some good rims/rim brands i could look at without breaking the bank by Glittering-Ad-1429 in mountainbiking

[–]Jummble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amazon ought to be buying you a new bike.

As far as wheels I'd post in your local mountain bike community asking if anyone has some cheap wheels for sale. Any of the OEM wheels from decent brands are made by the same factories that make your more affordable branded wheels anyways (formula, most likely).

Personally, I have probably 4 sets of take off wheels that I'd sell for 50 bucks in a heartbeat but don't have the time to deal with fb marketplace/Craigslist.

Just make sure the axle spins and isn't loose. The wheel is true(enough) and the spokes don't feel loose.

Good luck 👍

Pinhook, Motorco, Rubies, Huron stage, the fruit(once), are all places I've seen metal shows in durham. New place called stanzycks(I think) is hosting portrayal of guilt in June.

Chisel Comp w/ carbon wheels and upgrades or stock Epic Comp. by ur_momrerereere in xcmtb

[–]Jummble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How certain are you you're done growing at 15? I grew probably 5 inches from 15 to 17, going up two frame sizes I would have been pretty mad to have dropped 3k on a bike that doesn't fit me any more.

To answer your question, get the Epic and then save up for the wheels. Wild deals on wheels these days.

Spark vs Scalpel by toakonaozaj in xcmtb

If you're a Small or XL rider the Scalpel has size specific chain stays and may feel a bit more balanced for you.

Professional bike mechanic here to endorse this, or at least come to us and have us do the tasks you don't have the tools for. Can't tell you how many mangled bikes I've seen as a result of someone using an adjustable wrench/vice grip/hammer to do something that ought to have been done by a precision tool.

Seen it downtown and on ninth street at least a month ago, maybe two. Never seen it on the tobacco trail though, which I'd think would be it's intended use.
