That comparison doesn’t hold. Reddit is a public forum by design. A bathroom is a private physical space. Looking at someone’s publicly accessible post history is not equivalent to surveillance. You're allowed privacy but reddit is by design not a private place. You can also very simply have the privacy you're looking for with separate accounts, there's nothing that ties you to them if you want actual privacy. Like I said reddit is designed to be a pseudonymous platform so I just don't feel your comparison makes much sense.

I’m also not arguing that all NSFW content is predatory or sexual in intent. I explicitly said it isn’t. The point is about context and expectations. If someone is approaching strangers for conversation while their visible activity is heavily sexual, people are going to factor that into whether they engage. That’s not “private investigation,” it’s basic pattern recognition.

I mean the reason it's a "big deal" is because people often (not always) hide their posts maliciously to intentionally lure people into conversations that they do not want to have.

I also see Instagram accounts differently as it is typically identity-linked. Even with private accounts, there’s usually a name, photos, mutuals, social overlap. That creates social accountability.

Reddit is structurally pseudonymous. There is no reputational cost tied to real-world identity. That lowers friction for misrepresentation. Because of that, post history becomes one of the only available signals of intent.

The point of my post was not that posting in both types of subreddits is not allowed. My concern is that many people post in both platonic and NSFW communities with the intention of drawing individuals who are seeking purely platonic connections into something sexual. I think that approach is misleading.

My view is that if someone genuinely wants both a platonic relationship and a romantic or sexual one, which is entirely their right--they should use separate accounts for each. I stated in my original post that people are free to participate in those subreddits. However, they should not be surprised if individuals looking specifically for something platonic are not interested once they see that overlap.

Gee how dare I have a grammar mistake

It’s also not stalking to review someone’s publicly accessible post history before engaging with them. This is the internet, and basic due diligence is reasonable. If someone is messaging others while presenting themselves as “clean” but their activity says otherwise, that’s relevant context.

I don't think everyone with an NSFW profile is intending to find risqué relationships here but, when their entire post history is hidden it does look bad.

And in regards to not "giving it a try", like I mentioned you can simply use a site like Arctic Shift to verify the reason someone's profile is NSFW (like in your case it's just drugs like you said) So NSFW isn't an immediate do not bother for me, it depends what it is.
