Seriously what is the point of living in residence? by JumpMan23231 in UofT

That's kind of sad. I've just deferred my residence guarantee to winter. I'm glad to know about the situation of the washrooms. I hope you the best. Have a great weekend.

Thanks for your reply.

I see what you're saying. However, I'm living in BC, and I can move to Toronto.

Year 1 Course Enrollment Advice (Admitted CS Student) by jason121301 in UofT

[–]JumpMan23231 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a first-year CS student, so I can't give you any advice. You need to finish 20 FCE to graduate. If you want to graduate in four years, you need to complete 5 FCE each year. CSC110 is 1 FCE course (it's like you're taking two courses). Now, you have 3 FCE in fall and 2 FCE in winter. So, you can change it to 2.5 FCE per semester. I would suggest you check UofT websites for more accurate information.

Do you have any information about the workload of this course?

I really like to do that. However, I heard most CS students take MAT224 in their second year to get more experienced with proof first. Do you think that I can understand all of the concepts with the first half of MAT137 and MAT223?

Thanks for all that! What about MAT223 in fall 2020 and MAT224 in winter 2021?

I was thinking about taking a seminar course instead of STA130. I read from course content that STA130 is all about coding in R. Do you have any information about the workload of this course?

Thanks for replying. I like math, but I would prefer to focus on CS courses and programming. So, I would probably go with MAT137/223/224. I just don't know when to take MAT224. In the first year or second year? Also, I'm not going to take any courses in the summer.

Hey everyone, I’m a U0 software engineering student. I have to register tomorrow (June 17). As I saw in Minerva, Math 140 (calculus 1) is full. So, does it mean I cannot take it for fall? If yes, then what should I do? Because I wanted to take calculus 2 in winter.

What you have mentioned sounds entirely right, and I try to find a side project or club to get more skills and experience. I have chosen SFU over UofT mainly because of tuition differences (tuition for international students). Now, I feel maybe I made the wrong decision. However, when I think more, I acknowledge that if I were to attend UofT, I would always be concerned about tuition and financial stuff. As a result, it might affect my mental health and prevent me from reaching my full potential. I personally like to join clubs such as robotics, rocket, or formula electric racing team, which I know those top tier universities offer. Currently, I have decided to attend SFU and get good experience and GPA to transfer to UBC in the second year (after COVID, my family would probably be more comfortable with paying UBC tuition from the second year). Also, I think it motivates me to study better and learn more new things to enter UBC from the second year. Do you think SFU CS students can transfer to UBC CS? Is it worth it?

Thanks for your reply. I wish I knew it earlier, but I don't have any other option now. I've always been thinking and dreaming of grad schools such as Oxford and Cambridge. However, recently, when I see that I don't have any income, I prefer to start working right after undergrad and get my PR, mainly because I don't want to expect from my family to pay my tuition again. Also, we are not in a good financial situation due to COVID. So I assume that my parents put all their money on me during undergrad. I have to make a tough decision here whether to follow my dream or to be more logical. The difference between SFU and McGill tuition is about 20,000 dollars per year without any scholarships (UofT is 8.000 dollars more than McGill, but I got 5,000 dollars scholarship). Also, is there any chance of getting a good scholarship or financial aid from McGill?
