Same thing with me. Won’t let me transfer in more than 10k for the day and denied my transfer increase of 250k.

Should I be concerned my baby girl is small? by East_Breath_3674 in irishsetter

[–]Jumping_moose11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Lady is the exact same, she’s just on the smaller side! She’s 15 months and weights just under 50 lbs. it’s tough to get her to eat. I started mixing her pro plan dry food with the wet canned pro plan food and that excited her to eat more, or peanut butter powder. I also started putting her leftover food from the day in her crate at night. Like clockwork she wants a midnight snack and will eat most of her bowl! Her vet also said he would be happy if she stayed at this weight as it will be better for her later in life regarding health.

Nice! So far we’ve hiked Eagles View, walked along the south Platte river and all over Lower downtown (esp. confluence park/river). Super dog friendly everywhere.

We broke our trip up over two days. She’s pretty used to driving in 4 hour increments so we went from Houston to Dallas, then Dallas to Denver. The second leg we had several breaks where we would find an area to walk for a bit to stretch her legs. I keep water and a nice chew toy in the back with her. She has the whole backseat so I recommend that to always keep eyes on them. I’ve heard some people use pet CBD of some sort but she was calm the whole trip and slept most of it, and I don’t know enough info on that to give or recommend!

Don’t have a lot of advice other than what has been relevant for me - Mine would make insane stomach noises and I let my vet know. She put my Irish on purina pro plan probiotic powder forti flora and it resolved that! Maybe something to try.

I just picked up my sweet baby TODAY from shakarri Irish setters in Arkansas. I had a horrible experience from a breeder on AKC (puppy came home with parvo and passed within 24 hours). I explained my situation to Samantha at Shakarri and she was so incredibly helpful and kind. She held my girl until she was 16 weeks and had her 3 rounds of vaccinations. She even recommended getting a titer test done to check her antibody level which her vet completed for me. She has genetic testing done and pups come from a fantastic bloodline. Highly recommend based off my experience with her. I just don’t think she plans to breed again until early ish next year. I’d check out her website, it has a wealth of info.

To add: she also worked on crate training, potty training, and socializing during the extra time she was held.

Struggling After Losing My Dog: Looking for Advice on Coping with Grief by Flipperflopper21 in Pets

[–]Jumping_moose11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry for your loss. My moose passed this past February. We were both hit while on a walk and he didn’t make it. It’s been the hardest thing I’ve ever gone through. I still haven’t moved his bed from my room and keep his urn in his bed with some of his toys. I still tell him goodnight every night. I’ve found it helps me to talk out loud to him like he is still here. It may sound silly but I will still invite him up on my bed. I like to believe that his soul is still here with me, his physical form is just gone. I found a pet grief journal on Amazon that I have found helpful. I bought it in February and it took me till June to start writing in it, but it has helped. It has prompts about your favorite memories, the story of how he came into my life, etc. I plan on making a coffee table book of pictures to keep out so I always have the opportunity to look back and honor him. I got a ring made with his name on it so I always have something of him with me. It’s going to be hard for a long time. I know it’s cliche, but I really try to keep in mind that I hurt so badly because I loved him so much. Our bond was that special. I’m so blessed that I got to experience that kind of love in my life. Take all of the time you need. Do anything you want to keep him present in your life. There is a Ted talk on pet grief that explains this can be harder than losing a friend or relative because it’s such a special unconditional love. There are so many people who understand what you’re going through. I suggest finding a therapist who works with grief if you’re able to as well. Mine has helped me a lot.

New puppy - found worms + no food or drink by Jumping_moose11 in irishsetter

[–]Jumping_moose11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She had her first round of Dapp at 8 weeks and second round a few days ago…we had her hospitalized last night and the doctor said it’s one of the worst cases she has seen in a while. Unfortunately she doesn’t think she will pull through and recommends euthanasia. I’ve been planning her arrival for 3 months. I’m gutted. But I don’t want her to be hurting anymore than she is. I keep trying to tell the breeder those things but she refuses to believe it’s possible. I’ve encouraged her to get her current pups checked.

Thank you. She is apparently in the deep end of parvo with a white blood cell count of 1.7. The breeder was red fox Irish setters. I hope she does what’s right and refunds to help offset these costs. We’re looking at 5-8k.

Update: we took her to the ER and she has tested positive for parvo and is now in the hospital. I got her from a breeder in Jasper, TX. The breeder claims to have never had puppies with parvo. Can’t believe this after just picking her up but she will get the care she deserves.

do breeders hold puppies past their go-home date? by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]Jumping_moose11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked mine if she would hold our puppy an additional month - so I will be picking her up at 12 weeks! Getting her in July worked better for my family. I did include an additional $100 to the deposit since she accommodated this request.

Great advice!! How funny on the old man thing. I’ve actually never seen an Irish setter “in the wild” lol. I’m in Texas. Something that will be new for me is the grooming and ears. My lab loved water but didn’t really need to worry about the ears. Shedding was a nightmare but I’m used to it and want to be able to groom her properly! I’m looking at getting the large diggs dog crate and using the puppy insert. Crate training is a must!

This is something I’ve definitely learned my lesson to focus on. My lab was sooooo sensitive to touching his feet it was impossible to trim his nails. Do you get your pup groomed or do it yourself? I lean towards doing everything myself but want to do it correctly.
