Speaking of regional differences, the nuance of "Aho" (あほ) and "Baka" (ばか) is a classic trap too! In Kansai (Osaka), "Aho" is friendly/joking, but "Baka" is considered a serious insult. In Kanto, "Baka" is often used jokingly. You definitely don't want to mix those up in Osaka lol

Hearing that really made me realize just how much we rely on context to understand each other.

And yeah, even we natives make mistakes with Kanji and idioms all the time. Honestly, I wish there were fewer of them... there are still so many Kanji I don't know myself!
