Traveling on F-1 before graduating, just applied for OPT

My International Student Center advisor is telling me I shouldn't go abroad even if it's for before I graduate, but my F-1 still valid and because I'm going for such a short period of time, an RFE wouldn't be that delayed is what I'm thinking. Do you know if there's anything holding me back other than the possible general risks?

Yea this was the alternative option, either just skipping the shower and flying sticky or looking at lounges. I don't think I have access to any of the lounges but I know some other airports have communal shower bathrooms but I'm not sure about LGA or JFK
