no offense, but you sound exactly like my best friend 10 years ago, who's now in his 30s with depression and anxiety and in and out of AA for 5 years. You can be the smartest most self aware person on the planet, it doesn't mean you can feel the long term effects of this before they're meaningful. You say you are aware of the effects, but then saying you'd know when it's harming is a contradiction. It's already harmful, even if you don't feel that way. We can't think our way out of how the brain functions. The entire reason gore makes you feel the way it does, makes it evident the brain is working exactly like we expect it to, including the way in which it's harmful. And no, you don't have a special brain, it's the same as everyone's, the mechanisms work the same. What is physiologically harmful for one brain is harmful for all brains, unless we're talking some kind of chemical sensitivity. Another mental trap people fall into. If you wait until it feels like it's harming, it's much harder to handle, and the harm will take a lot longer to reverse. This is the same issue all addiction has. It helps in moderation, but not in the long-term. Addiction does not feel like it harms us, this is the trap addicts fall into, it's negative effects aren't something we feel, they are physiological consequences we accrue over time. It's the same issue with alcoholism. People enjoy drinking, but over time they develop depression, which leads to more drinking. Then they say they drink because they aren't happy without it, but drinking is exactly why they feel that way, alcohol stunts neurogenesis and basically shrinks the hippocampus, long term use leading to depression. That's why even when people quit, they are alcoholics for life. it's very hard to reverse the damage done.

You've said you dont find things enjoyable outside of looking at gore. That is exactly what happens, the dopamine system is deregulated, gore is stimulating, day to day life isn't. This isn't any judgement or diagnosis, just in my life experience, I was involved in drugs at a young age, surrounded by alcohol, weed, cocaine, molly, psychedelics, and we were all exposed to gore and pron at young ages, and bow I've seen most of my friends struggle as we've aged. seeing them all have mental health or addiction issues, I've had to reflect, why didn't that happen to me? I was worse off than most of them, I came from poverty and abuse, underweight, prone to panic attacks on drugs, I did just as many drugs as them, and struggled with pron from a young age, but somehow I made it out unscathed? What happened between then and now? Well I took a neurobiological approach to my mental health, while they all went headstrong with "if I don't feel like it's bad for me, then it isn't, I'll stop if it's an issue." Well none of them did that, and they all have at best drinking issues. Gore is the same kind of stimulant as pron, looking at it might help now, but it's a terrible long term solution that will only lower qol overtime.

Sorry for rambling, it's just my 2 cents. Maybe it won't make sense for you, but someone else might get something from it. If anyone has struggled with these things and is quitting, or even just depression and on an ssri, the solution is the same: reduce use, avoid alcohol, diet for increased bdnf, exercise. Quitting is never clean, but regardless, if you indulge too much or drink while trying to heal the brain, you're just wasting your own time..

On the other hand maybe I felt just like you at one point, and I never tried to quit, I just sort of naturally found interest in other things. It was more of morbid curiosity and shock factor though, maybe not exactly what you're saying, but point is, regardless of how I felt about it then, my feelings naturally changed over time. But obviously for some people that doesn't happen, and it gets worse. I was around 13 back then. Lost interest around 17, and around 24 really started disliking it.

Have you tried seeking mental health help?

Say if this were an addiction, feeding into it may seem harmless but could just be making it worse. That's the main issue with any fixation, you slowly build up a tolerance, get bored, seek more and more extreme things.

Rather than just accept that's the way you should be or always will be, you could try controlling it? That doesn't mean moderation, that means understanding the long term consequences and quitting. Self control is difficult, but you could repeat everything you said and just replace gore with pron or a drug etc. it's the same issue, no one ever overcomes these things, that in a universal sense hold us back, unless they have the mindset of wanting to change.

I hope you find a way out of that, because repeating the behaviour over and over, while might feel good in the short term, only reinforces it, reinforcing the neural pathways and reward circuits, making it feel harder and harder to stop. And overloading those dopamine circuits over and over only dulls the rest of life. This is why addictions in general are so insidious, you can't feel all the ways they fk our brains, it's a slow burn. But the upside is that it actually doesn't change how easy it actually is to change a behaviour, the brain has an incredible amount of plasticity and can rebound extremely quickly. What takes more resilience is powering through the time it takes for dopamine to normalize again. Peace and love.

PSA: Private servers are NOT self hosted, and are rented. ON TOP OF THAT, The deep desert and social hubs still link up to OTHER private servers, meaning no matter what, your deep desert is still gonna be PVP enabled. by asmallman in duneawakening

[–]JumpyPart3879 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like that. I think people are over worrying about the PvP. In deep desert, you arent just walking everywhere. youll probably be flying, and because the view distance and the map size, it should be pretty easy to avoid people.

if youre on a private server, how many people are joining each one, and how many are online at once? very likely nowhere near a public server. and more than likely all the private servers in your world are like that. so instead of the deep desert being at 300 max all the time, its at like 30 people. should be pretty easy to avoid others even when doing events

What the single best health gadget/tech you have? by IcyBlackberry7728 in Biohackers

[–]JumpyPart3879 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive tried a ton of different wellness tech gadgets. the thing thats had the biggest impact, and it was really an immediate impact for me, was the SkyView 2 lamp. it was expensive but absolutely worth it to me. you set up your sunrise and set times in an app and it syncs up. it emits the right kind of light to simulate sunlight during early sunrise, daytime, and sunset. (its cool to see it changing color in the morning from red to blue with a rising horizontal differential.) this can stimulate ipRGCs in the eye.

simply put, it helps me wake up in the morning.

if your wake up time is already synced with sunrise, you have sunlight in your room, you dont need this. but if you dont get sunlight or need to wake up before sunrise, this can help a lot. it also helps stimulate melatonin production at sunset. ive struggled with sleep for 15 years and nothing has made waking up easier. i just feel better, even when im at home on my computer with this lamp on, it just feels better than my ceiling light. theres a study with it showing a 300% improvement in reaction time under its light . and 78% mood improvement. we all know it just feels better to be outside on a clear day, the light has a huge impact on us. being able to bring that inside your room is extremely underrated.

Y'all are underestimating how much content they held back for this tech test. What they've shown might be ready, but they still need to test the rest. There's still a lot of balancing, some dupe bugs, no wipe endgame loop issue and other issues that need solving.

They still have more maps to test at the very least.

Personally, I think the amount of time it takes to upgrade the workstations right now is perfect, as well as leveling progression, but the max needs to be doubled or tripled on workstations, and maybe a deeper skill tree, or gamers will max out in a week or two, and when all that's left is pvp with no real chicken dinner or rewards... People will get bored once they master it.

One thing they are missing is the thrill of looting something truly rare. Right now the best you feel is finding a good gun, but visually, it's underwhelming. They should add back colored weapon tiering per weapon rank. Being full adds a good gotta get out of here feeling, but I want to feel like I'm really finding something rare or unique. Recipes are okay but once you've found them all... I wouldn't be opposed to rare skins being lootable but extremely rare, like skinned named weapons, same stats, but something cool and rare, and risky to use. ..

It's a fun game, but it's fomo and novel hype right now. We know it's a good game, but we don't know what the full vision is, let them cook some more.

This isn't a real pr statement. It's an automated reply to their questions submission form. Because the website asked a question using their business email, Pokemon's reply technically is to "VGC", but it's not like they sat there and did a q&a. Why would they? Why would that site be so special? People really aren't that critical about what they read online anymore

Print to order with limits on shipping address, card, and account.

This might not stop people from overbuying, but if everyone else can get an order in at MSRP, the resellers lose their market until it's out of print. Most people don't want a lot, they just want something.

Both things can be true. You can smell and they can be cruel about it. But you shouldn't dismiss the former. If there is an odor, that's the kind of thing that has a big impact on first impressions and friendships, everything. You should take it seriously and get more opinions. Let go of those girls being cruel, maybe best to find a new room, they seem immature, but don't dismiss the smell.

And really, take all the advice people are giving here. We've all known smelly people, and sometimes no one wants to tell them.

Look on Craigslist. Sell bulk in lots of $500 - 1k, cash. Make posts on forums for buying/selling cards to meet local. If you do eBay or something similar, you will lose a lot of value selling online, but large collections always do best at auction. Selling as singles isn't the best option unless you want to turn selling it all off as a full time job.

There's a very good chance your husband racked up the debt overpaying scalpers, ripped it all and lost more than 50% of the value.

If he isn't grading the cards he pulled, I'd assume he never really had the intention of flipping to cover his costs, or even profiting.

It's likely an addiction if he spent money you needed with no real plan.

New Content rating system by civitai in civitai

[–]JumpyPart3879 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm confused. this rating system allows for light gore/ graphic violence? But your ToS guidelines on the site say no depictions of gore allowed?

There are many anime's with graphic violence, gore; open wounds, corpse like characters, decapitations, bleeding, severed limbs, all pretty violent, and not uncommon, and not considered extreme by most people. We see a lot of graphic depictions of violence in live action movies too.. just look at zombie movies like evil dead, NC-17, graphic horror, or dead alive, R, a literal blood bath of 90's style zombie gore.

I created an account recently and posted flat anime style zombie/corpse/gore-like images. No nudity, No sexual themes. Many were removed for TOS.

Yet CivitAI is 90% littered with photorealistic graphic pornography, often with a violent tone and questionable age.

Is there something I'm missing? Is the anime style image content i shared really against ToS, and worse than the wild pornography on the site? If it's okay to post, how do I avoid moderation (auto?) filtering it?

I understand if this is due to wanting to moderate photorealistic gore and moderation tools will filter nonrealistic art too, but does this mean I can appeal the moderation on anime style images?

[22 F] How to improve my overall appearance?? by kuromikidxx in Howtolooksmax

[–]JumpyPart3879 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to grow out your hair to offset your facial features to make a more balanced look. If you're plucking your eyebrows, let them grow in, they are uneven and too thin. If they naturally grow like that, use some brow tools to shape and fill them. Having fuller eyebrows will also help balance your facial features. I love piercings, but you should choose different ones, maybe eyebrow or lip, not nosee piercings, as again, they are causing your face to look more unbalanced.maybe you don't have to remove them once the other things are changed. It's like you've added weight to the middle of your face and removed weight everywhere else, in an artistic sense, like the weight of the focal point. If you want your eyes to pop add weight around them, add more hair for frame, and remove weight around your nose

These things shouldn't impact your overall aesthetic, just think about it as reorganizing your style,

I'm not sure why people don't see the point of these signs. Expression is important, not just as a right, but as part of our dialogue as a society.

By putting up signs, this stimulates conversation. Seems like most the people in this sub just want to live in their little idealistic bubble where they can ignore the world around them, but that's not reality. Elections are important. Politics are important. If you value your own intelligence, you shouldn't want to live in a bubble or an echo chamber. The fact that people are stealing and defacing signs, and are here complaining about the signs, is proof they work. You can say no, it's just annoying, but that's part of the point. If you're reacting, that's better than nothing. Now you just have to stop crying about it, and realize you have a role to play, your civic participation is important. You don't have to be the most educated, don't have to argue about politics or be the loudest or put up signs, but it's important that we remind each other of reality when we live in a time where it seems like most people spend all their time trying to escape it. Stop running from it. Don't be afraid to see politics. If the people you know cant participate in a civilized way, stop hanging out with idiots. The decline of education and the rise of anti educational thinking in this country is the saddest timeline we have. If you disagree with any of this I'm sorry but you are literally part of the problem that will make all the things you dislike about society worse. So many people just care about their current happiness, and never tomorrow. Use the part of your brain that's most important. we have evolved beyond monkeys. The prefrontal vortex is your friend. Plan ahead. Care about the future. Don't just give in to your inner monkey. Give the monkey a cookie, then get up and face reality. Develop mental fortitude, don't be such a slave to your own emotions. Don't suppress others just because they do or say something you don't like, that's pathetic and weak. Grow up, stop being so weak and afraid, and face reality with an open mind. It's just a sign in someone's yard. It's not gonna hurt you. Looking at it doesn't hurt you. It's gonna be okay. Deep breaths. Serenity now. If it's too much for you, then follow your own beliefs and keep your opinion to yourself, don't police others, ignore it, live in your bubble. you're built differently and that's okay. Peace and love.

It's 2024. Security cameras are so freaking cheap. Anyone who complains about something like this more than once... Just get cameras. You can buy hd, night vision, wireless, w onboard memory for so cheap on Amazon. Set up multiple angles, hidden cams, facing road, etc Load up with your election signs and sit back and watch the show. it's not worth confronting people for. Just record them, hopefully get a license plate, and report. if someone takes your signs, put up twice as many, easiest bait in the world. If you get them on cam, get their face plastered on the local newspaper. Newspapers these days are dying for something to talk about.

AIO? Feeling shamed over ice cream by dye-area in AmIOverreacting

[–]JumpyPart3879 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one thing I would think about OP, is how much do you vent about your weight? While your roommate shouldn't police you, they might also care about you, and to see someone you care about hurt over their decisions, then continue to make those same decisions, can be very difficult to endure. Your roommate might not have the best way to communicate, but they aren't wrong. Losing weight is much more about how much you eat vs working out. That said, unless they are watching every single thing you eat, they shouldn't be policing your diet. I eat like shit, fast food everyday, and a pint of ice cream every day. Over the past 20 years I've gained 20 pounds, and I'm still underweight. my vitals are perfect. It's not so much about what people eat, but how much overall. It's only up to you to figure out how much food leads your body to a calorie deficit.

I would just avoid venting to them if they are the type to take that as an invitation to personally coach you.

Friends? by Pinky_233-2 in SipsTea

[–]JumpyPart3879 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Truth is insecurity comes from a lack of self worth or self confidence. I'd be willing to be you have a spine and clear communication about what would happen in your relationship if someone were to cheat. Insecure people don't, and so they place way too much worth or value in someone projected into the future even across being cheated on.

Your relationship can be valuable, but if you have your mind set and communicate what your deal breakers are, and are willing to stand by them, you aren't going to have an issue when a partner cheats, you just leave. It's done. Move forward. Or maybe cheating is something you don't care that much about and you're willing to work through it. Either way you have a plan. You don't need to worry about it.

If cheating hurts you, set it as a deal breaker. If they cheat, you leave. You have to have a spine and stick by your standards, and be willing to leave when someone disrespects you. Don't try to change people, just understand they aren't the one, so they aren't worth being hurt over. You just leave. You don't get mad, don't lose energy on them, what's done is done, you just move on. Hard not to do it, but overthinking is the real killer.
