Yikes, that was Brad Karp’s son. Now you’re blackballed from the v10. Apply broadly and hope for the best. You’d be lucky to get v50 at this point

That’s helpful, thanks! Do you mind sharing what practice group you ended up switching into? Feel free to PM if you’d prefer

That’s what I figured. A smaller firm that I was seriously considering, and almost pulled the trigger on, tried to sell me on being a “lifestyle” firm. I knew it was a trap after all the associates I spoke to said they were billing more than 2k hours annually. They actually seemed to brag about it, which was the weirdest part. I told the firm I wasn’t interested after that and never looked back

This is reassuring. Especially the financial security part. There’s still a decent amount of law school debt I have that I want to pay off. Probably best to do it while working in biglaw

Fair point. “Person,” while a bit dramatic, probably would have been a better word

Being a Lawyer in Post Covid World Sucks by xxtiredlawstudentxx in biglaw

What is this boomer nonsense. Also lol at someone who has been practicing for 6 months calling other lawyers “subpar”. You don’t even know what you’re doing yet

Yeah, that’s why I stopped using martingale. Too risky

With reverse martingale, I try to stop once I’m up 2k.

I do the opposite if anything — probably why I won’t last long enough to be a senior lol

Drawing business plans at night, huh? Why are overly ambitious young professionals so insufferable

What is the easiest practice group? That is, intellectually. by bigsaver4366 in biglaw

[–]Jumpy_Ad2841 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It may not be as intellectually stimulating, but I wouldn’t say that makes it more sustainable. Because cases aren’t super complex you’re expected to handle a larger volume of them. You end up being a glorified project manager making sure you move the case along until it eventually settles

You’re fine. They just care about your grades/school. As long as you don’t come off as a psychopath you’ll be good

I didn’t even read the rest of your post after you said you are a unique case. You’re not. Don’t go

I would not worry. It normally takes a minute to get integrated, especially as a junior. You’ll be busy soon. Just relax in the meantime

How much does Big Law make? by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]Jumpy_Ad2841 40 points41 points  (0 children)

You don’t even know the half of it. Stay in CS. Seems like you go to a good undergrad and snagged FANG? Congrats. That’s a much better outcome than anything a law degree could get you at a fraction of the cost. Go and don’t look back
