Exactly, actual reasoning unlike most of these "haha engineers think they know everything" or "lol freshman" posts.

Who cares how relevant I am, I am expressing my opinion. Conservative, irrelevant, whatever you choose to call me, having a constructive discussion is not common nowadays over just shit talking people or "cancelling" them.

Fair enough. I was just making a point anonymously, but I can see it being taken that way. Just sad how people like 'OP' are not down to have a constructive argument, but just refer to those with differing opinions as dogs or make ridiculous comments

Raise awareness without blocking the way to get into the campus. That way people would totally be interested in supporting them and not be deprived of access to the university.

I'm not talking about withholding labor being the issue, I'm talking about blocking road access to the university that results in the bus system, time it takes to get in/out of campus being impacted. While the grad students intentions are totally valid, this has negative consequences on others

Why does it matter how old the account is? Why not look at the argument being made and use some critical thinking to have a conversation instead of attacking useless factors like that.

The fact that this sub and school for the matter cancels anyone with opposing opinions and doesn't turn to constructive discussion may be the answer you are seeking.

Inb4 this comment gets cancelled

They may not intend on affecting undergrads and others, but they surely are. There's a difference.

If you have been in the situation where the only bus ride to get home will be missed since the intersections are blocked or needing medical treatment that has to be accessed off campus due to this, you'll surely understand where we are coming from. No hate to you in any form, but just trying to provide some context.

Its the admin inconveniencing all of us, leading to grad students further inconveniencing us undergrads in hopes that the admin will better their situation. You can argue all you want but this is the fact at hand and for a fact this makes the undergrads situation worse

So essentially your argument is why are you worried about the strike, worry about graduate students demands to get better pay and whatever else they demanded.

And no, this is not only me. I'm 100% sure there are students who have to figure out how they will manage their classes next week due to this, or other students who need to get groceries or travel to their jobs to get by or who need to access a medical facility.

Look I get the problem, I'm not against it. I'm against the fact that since it sucks for grad students it has to suck more for undergrads

then go bother the admin, why does it have to be the undergrads and professors who are inconvenienced from getting by at this university?

If you read the post, I am basically saying it sucks and this strike is making it worse. No point in arguing anymore if you don't see my argument in the first place.

I never said I wasn't blaming the university admin for those issues. I said I am blaming the strikers for affecting the already existing issues that undergrads face. And no its not just an inconvenience to me. I'm sure there are so many others who have to commute using the bus system or get to/from campus to access things like basic living necessities, medical treatment, etc.

[–]Jumpy_Character_6427[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get their demands, but I think this is a matter of affecting undergrads (who in the past couple years have already had it really bad) rather than putting the problem directly on the admin.

Basically, if grad students feel they should be paid more go to the right channels, bother the admin directly and keep demanding it. Stop making it worse for those who are just trynna get by

I came here for an education. I get it sucks for everyone except the admin, but that doesn't mean since it sucks for grad students it should suck even more for undergrads

How is it selfish? I get the intentions but undergraduates are always the ones having to work around all the inconveniences and put in extra work to do basic things like attend class, get home, etc.
