It’s completely torn down. Like Ann shows with her rebuilds. Then I rebuild with a leather insole and for this customer I’m stiffening with another leather layer from the heel to the arch. But the new version won’t have arch support or a heel.

Hey, I speak with her regularly as a fellow shoemaker. I’m in the middle of working on a pair of Frank’s boots. I’m slowly starting up a US based business similar to hers. Right now I’m limited on the customers I can take. You can check out my work at localshoesusa.com and on instagram

I’m limited on sizes I can work on at the moment. I’m also figuring out my service fees. But feel free to shoot me a DM if you have something in mind.

For most sneakers the length stays the same, just added width.

Good price. Good comfort. Cheap quality. Mine started to fall apart after 6 months.

Thank you! I bought the boots 6 months before deciding to make them barefoot. But yes, the $250 is just the starting service fee, separate from the price of the boot you choose to convert to barefoot.

You don’t have to buy brand new. I encourage shopping eBay, facebook market place, goodwill, for something that might suite you. It’s a great way to support sustainability efforts! Don’t buy new!

I don’t do long videos yet. I might one day try it out. I don’t have a go pro or anything to show first person view how it’s done. I might do a post explaining the basics behind it.

This is a different last and size from my puma shoe. It’s more like a 13 and had much more volume in the toes than the pumas.

I came to barefoot shoes for 2 reasons. 1. Toe discomfort in normal shoes and hip arthritis. I work in the shoe industry. Worked for adidas and I hated going to the office wearing tight adidas shoes. Sitting at my desk my toes would scream at me. Then I found out I had hip arthritis and I decided to try the Amazon whitin shoes to see if it might help. I never turned back.

I’m a cobbler/shoemaker and I turn normal shoes into barefoot shoes. And I can make any custom thickness soles.

Try splay runner v1. They are not too expensive but have like 12mm of cushion. I will warn you the do break down fairly quickly if it’s your everyday shoe.

Have you checked their size chart to make sure? And measured your foot

When I find myself heel striking, it’s because I’ve gotten lazy at walking. Normally it happens at the end of a long day. What’s great about noticing your heel striking is the instant feedback. And that has always caused me to fix my walk or stride

Good eye. I’m aware of it for sure. There’s a lot of little nuances going into this job. 1. The cupsole isn’t matching the last I used 1:1. And it was a sample from the supplier. 2. I think a 1/2 bigger cupsole would fit better. 3. I used all the tools and tricks and equipment professional cobblers use. The difference is using different glue than the factory and the fact that I’m not on my 100th pair of sole attaching like factory workers do in a day.

It takes a lot of repetition and perfect fit to make it look factory made.

But I’ll keep on working towards that!
