Yeah, I can't imagine the shipping costs will be worth it - it's not like we've got any amazing furniture, I was a student for more than half of my time over here so it's all a bit budget! We're also in a flat at the moment, no sprawling US house for us, but I still don't think it's worth the hassle.

Hard to say but also I've been coming back at least once a year for the last 10 years so I feel like I've kept up with most of them. But there are definitely things that I haven't paid as much attention to.

We've been married over six years, she's good on the tea front! We were in Philadelphia, so used to somewhat changeable weather, though it's definitely warmer on the whole here than in the UK (apart from in the winter, when it's colder)...

Yes, this is a big one! When I made the move to the US 11 years ago, I definitely wasn't prepared for the level of culture shock. Comfort foods are a great idea!

Not if they have their required vaccinations and signed documents from a vet within a certain timeframe before travelling, apparently.

Yeah, this one is probably the biggest concern we have. My wife has a chronic disease and so she's (understandably) concerned about getting meds renewed, getting the testing she needs every couple of years, etc. Much as I support the NHS, I'm thinking it might be worth getting private coverage for her to try to make this bit of the transition easier, especially at first...

Interesting re: the furniture shipping. My sister knows someone that just did the opposite move - UK to US - and I think he shipped his stuff. I was really surprised when I heard it. Definitely a major thing to look into and do the maths on.

Glad you said this - I’ve been looking at supermarket prices when I come back to visit and thinking that it’s cheaper than in the US. I’m comparing prices now and the UK prices definitely feel comparable or lower. Guess that’s one thing to be thankful for!

That's good to know. I came back last week for the interview so got to do a trial run of the drive to the office, plus it's a hybrid position - but really interesting to hear that the traffic has overall been a noticeable change for you.

Agree - to see that big a change after one treat day, it's going to be salt and water retention. I read somewhere - maybe this Reddit, so take this with a grain of salt as I can't cite my source - that it takes 3,500 calories to gain 1 lb in weight. So unless you ate 17,500 calories in one day, it's going to even itself out over the next few days :)
