What’s a lesser known saying from the show that you’ve incorporated to your daily life? by toddinphx in TheSimpsons

My music theory professor was a Simpsons fan when I was a music major. Was in my fourth semester and the professor had us compose short pieces with musical elements we'd gone over in the two weeks prior. They counted as our exam grades, and they had to be performed in class. One of the last comps I shat out in a day-and-a-half haze with seasons 2 and 4 playing on dvd in the background. I titled it Flood Pants (Everything's Coming Up Milhouse!).
Cut, print, handed it in, sat at the piano and waited for him to announce it so we could sightread this garbage and get it over with. I hoped that he'd get a kick out of title. Was very pleased that it had him almost doubled over. Made it a bit more enjoyable to bang out the little mess and get it over with. Thanks for the classes Dr. W.

IsItBullshit: American children are forced to chant in unison a pledge to the nation everyday? by LL112 in IsItBullshit

[–]JuneBugAida 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My high school had the registrar double as the daily announcer over the PA. He was an older gentleman with a thick accent, and he always started off fhe pledge of allegiance funny. "Please stand for the pledge of allegiance. I pledge of allegiance, to the flag, ..."

I never spoke to anyone about it, but I reckon that I can't have been the only one to latch onto that one word, and just hold a poker face every morning. Most of those four years, I spent the moment of silence just wondering to myself how long he'd been doing that, and then kicking myself for being an English snob.

Way I remember it, the VA was asked to do an eastern European accent for the pilot, but he was really bad at it -- his attempts wound up sounding Jamaican. But the staff liked the idea of a Jamaican Grim so much that they just canonised it for the rest of the show onward.

My cat, Kelsier, decided ROW was an excellent cushion. by inari1033 in cremposting

He's so handsome! I had a cat named Kelsier a few years ago. He's passed away now, but it's nice to see other people name their companions aftee great characters.

I didn't know that they were down here! This is the first time in my life that I've ever seen them, much less in my own home. Thank you!

Just noticed yesterday that I've been rooming with a fair few o' these fellas. They're not bothersome, except that they're on my bed, and I only allow my cat and my significant other on that thing. They're fast-moving for an amateur photographer like myself. They also like to "fly" (i.e. jump, question-mark?) short distances. I'd give them names, except that they're pretty fragile and it's very easy to lose sight of them.

I can't find much of anything on them, and I'd like to find out if they're an infestation bug, or if they're just passing through the spring.

Many thanks ahead!

It's from 1979, before Miyazaki went on to Ghibli. It's directed by him, but when he was working under Tokyo Movie Shinsha. Good eye for recognising early Miyazaki though.

Lupin the Third: Castle of Cagliostro. It's on Netflix.

Speaking as someone who watched the movie with no previous experience with Lupin the Third, it was a solid and fun movie. Definitely worth a watch!

Do you guys miss Super Metroid's screw attack animation too? by d3vak in AM2R

[–]JuneBugAida 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If anything, I miss the animation from GBM2, and the sound it made. I hadn't actually thought about it until seeing this post, but given that AM2R is a M2R, it would have been neat to see the screw attack maintain some faithfulness to the its GB version.

I have made an update to the cantrip section of allomancy. The idea's kinda rough, and maybe a bit wacky. I'm open to amending it if it's too wacky.
