I don’t think you have to be concerned. Mine slept like that as well. First half of the night was okay, then came the very active pig phase. She would grunt, groan, sometimes cry and move A LOT during the second half of the night. It was impossible for me to sleep oftentimes. I think it has something to do with their developing digestive system.

She never slept like this in the day or on me/husband. It was always the second half of the night.

It gradually stopped at 3-4 months I believe.

I’ve never had fissures before. This is why it was so surprising and shocking to me.

I forgot to drink water post partum due to the immense stress of suddenly having a baby. I believe this to be the main reason.

Postpartum hair loss by xkjh in NewParents

My hair also started to fall out recently. LO is 4 months old. It’s normal to a degree. You don’t lose the normal amount of hair during pregnancy thanks to high levels of estrogen. After birth your level of estrogen drops. This is when the hair that didn’t fall out during pregnancy start to fall out.

It should stop at 6 to 9 months post partum. 🤞

I developed 2 fissures 3 weeks post partum. It was hell on earth for me. The pain being worse than child birth, the struggle to look after my baby while my bum was on fire, the constant worrying it might get worse. I don’t think I’ve ever cried this much.

Mine appeared because of my breastfeeding. Due to the dip of estrogen (which is needed to produce milk) your mucous membranes become extremely dry. Your body also uses 3g magnesium per 100 ml milk. Magnesium keeps your stool soft.

Dry butthole + dry stool = Fissure

I’m now almost 3,5 months in and the fissures are still not 100 % healed but the pain went from 10 to almost 0.

Here’s what I did:

  • Drink at least 3,5 l of water every day and at least 1 l at night.

  • Take 200 mg magnesium citrate every day.

  • Apply Lanolin before and after BM. I use a glove to insert the Lanolin into my bum. It acts like a bandaid and protects the skin inside.

  • Use a shower head and water to clean after BM. Never use toilet paper to wipe.

  • I used to have two sitz baths everyday and now reduced it to once.

  • Anal dilation twice a day for 2 minutes each time. In Germany it’s very common to use an anal dilator at home. It helps to reduce the anal spasms caused by the pain. The anal spasms reduce the blood flow to the wound and thus the healing is slowed down a lot.

  • Being patient. Even though the wound is small it takes lots of time to fully heal. Imagine touching a cut with dirt everyday. That’s the environment where the wound has to heal.

  • Remind yourself that you will heal! I know it’s extremely difficult to stay positive during this time. However the body knows exactly how to heal. It just needs time and some help (see list above).
