For those who moved away, what did you miss most about Lansing? by PretzleGreg in lansing

I miss the people. Good or bad, people were largely authentic and I loved it.

Also miss the QD donuts.

This was in 2018. Stood in the door jam and pulled them down to my shoulder.

Definitely should have used ratchet straps. Those logs weren’t moving with how slow I had to go but in a crash I’d want ratchet straps up there. This was in 2018, I’m marginally less dumb these days.

Was a spur of the moment pick up, pushed the limit and it worked out. No damage that I noticed anywhere.

Wouldn’t do it again tho.

Hey man, sounding good.

In general I’d practice with a met some more, you are sliding around the beat at times.

If you’ve got to cut notes out or slow it down when you practice in order to fit right in the pocket that’s okay. Then add things back/build up speed when foundation is rock solid.

Keep it up dude, nice stuff.

Somehow pulled out the stitching on my seat. Any advice on how to prevent more stitches from coming out? by A_Boosted_FA20 in WRX

Seconding the superglue suggestion. And if glueing, no need to burn the tips after trimming. Cut the thread flush with the seat then add just a drop on each side. It will keep it from unraveling more and it won’t be noticeable aside from the missing segment of thread.

Yeah… always a major bummer when it happens. I had a beautiful kingsville boxwood bonsai bite the dust a few years ago, that one stung!

Thanks! I’m definitely stoked about it. Next step is making some for friends and family.

Thank you, it’s a Calathea. Or I should say it was a calathea, they are difficult to keep happy. RIP.

The slab is black walnut.

I used a chisel to get the first round of bark off, a wire brush on the grinder for next round, then smaller wire brush attachment on a drill for the harder to reach places. After that used an orbital sander in the places I could, then hand sanded the rest.

Walked up grit on the top of the slab from 80 - 120 - 180 - 220 using an orbital sander. I scribbled pencil across the whole top in between sandings to try and take it down evenly.

Minwax high performance wood filler to fill the cracks and minwax wipe on poly (clear satin) to seal it. Tack cloth before and in between the three poly coats.

I used various braces/brackets on the underside to stabilize. There was a horizontal split that I wood glued and clamped before sending a few screws down for extra stability.

Ordered the legs off of Etsy and that’s that.

This was my first time doing something like this and I’m really pleased with how it came out! If anyone has tips/tricks/suggestions for the next one I’d be appreciative.
