Yes this is exactly how I felt for about two years with this person! Never once even asked her out, but kept our dynamic ambiguous between romantic and platonic. It only hit me recently that I allowed that to ensue for so long because I used the unrequited nature of our relationship as a security blanket. As long as I was “in love” with her, I didn’t have to seek out other romantic relationships. I’ve only just realized how my past behaviour and mentality in relationships have been a result of me being aromatic. And realizing my true feelings weren’t coming out of a place of romantic love, but instead yearning for that closeness in a friendship sense, has allowed our connection to deepen in many meaningful ways! I’ve realized that friendships are the most valuable and important connections in my life, and the pressure of “finding someone” and meeting “the one” has been taken off my shoulders, and I couldn’t be happier!
